"You ever wonder why we're here... ?"

In Red vs. Blue, this question gets asked of Church two times; the first time in Season 1, Episode 1, and the second and final time in the Season 5 finale. He's had a different answer each time, but I now have my own little answer to this question...

You know, I have over 20 years of religious activity and research under my belt, and I used to think for sure that I had the answers. And maybe I did. Who knows. I can tell you now though that, as always, the world is so much more complicated than any of us realize. This includes my former religious beliefs. After disappointments and failed promises of numerous kinds on all sides and new perspectives coming to light, you know what I learned about why we're here?

It doesn't matter.

All I'm going to do is wander the deserts and forests of this life and the next. I think there is definitely something beyond the veil for sure, and I think there are rules of this universe and maybe all universes that can never be broken, but beyond that... We're on our own. And maybe I actually prefer that in the end. Perhaps I take to the wandering solitary lifestyle better than others. But either way, I no longer ever wonder why I'm here. Not anymore. Honestly, I think I've had enough answers now to last me fifty lifetimes.

It also depends on what you mean by the question.

The question could mean "what are our origins?" It could also mean "what is our purpose?"

Many people enjoy having purpose to their lives, whether that purpose is to wander, or to contribute to something greater than themselves, such as a movement, or a website that stands for free speech.

A good point. I suppose I'm much more leaning towards what our purpose is as opposed to what our origins are. For a very long time, I thought that purpose was clear and set in steel. Nowadays though? Who knows. I sure don't. There are so many spirits and entities screwing around in this world for whatever reason, and it seems a terrible idea almost all the time to get mixed up with any of them. Maybe even God.

One thing that is very true though is that, for whatever reason, humans need something to dedicate themselves to to be happy. Among other things. We must also continually progress and move forward in experience and in power, whether it be internal or external.

So now, I only have three allegiances in my life. The protection of my family, the protection and promotion of Sanctuary, and myself, in that order of priority. Everything else is out of my hands and I'm done worrying about anything else. If something or someone is not involved in one of those circles somehow, it doesn't concern me and I very, very probably won't be involving myself with it in any capacity whatsoever.

or a website that stands for free speech.

And for all of you guys who choose to spend your time on this small site at the edge of the internet, you have my love and my thanks. <3 I'm with you all.

I've never really wondered about this question, from either the "origins" or "purpose" perspective. As it seems pretty self-evident. We're self-aware animals, and our purpose is to reproduce. From a personal angle it becomes a tad more complex though, ranging into nature and nurture as to the origins of our personality, and verging on self-discovery and deep contemplation with regards to our, individual, purpose.
