https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dissenter-extension/gdmekeodmghijamlkjcfpigdcdmcllbo

It's an extension that uses gab as a backend to put a comment page on top of any site you're visiting. So if someone turns off a comment section on their article, blog, or video, you can circumvent that and comment with other users who have the extension.

It's a neat idea, but suffers from some problems in my opinion:

1) Upvotes - Things by default are ranked by "top", which is based on the number of upvotes. You can sort by "controversial" or "latest", but "top" is the default view.

2) Ideologically Homogeneous userbase - The only people who use this are people who have been kicked out of the monopolies of internet discourse for being "nazis", or are otherwise people who stand for free speech. You won't get into any conversations with many different points of view, since, as I pointed out in an earlier topic, these kind of "free speech" platforms are a natural filter that only let certain types in. It's just an echo-chamber.

3) It's kind of useless. Because of #2, you just end up talking ABOUT people, instead of talking WITH them. You'll never change anyone's mind. You won't introduce a new idea to someone who wasn't already predisposed to consider it. You'll never reach outside the bubble and get your idea to someone who desperately needs it. This app will never be mainstream, and nothing will change. It might feel cathartic, like punching a heavy bag, but in the end, it accomplishes nothing.

Also, something I've just learned, it doesn't really work on some sites (like this one), depending on how they structure their urls.

For instance, take: https://intosanctuary.com/index.php?threads/dissenter-has-been-released.651/#post-8429

It'll look at https://intosanctuary.com/index.php and won't take into account the query params or hashes. That means that if you want to "Dissent" on a specific thread, you can't.

I don't see companies reorganizing how their websites work in order to do this same thing and thus, make Dissent unusable on their site, but it's worth noting. Or it would be, if Dissent were worth using.

I disagree that it is useless AND that is will stay an echo-chamber.

Commenting on sites and pages that have a limited amount of user and viewer input is vital in maintaining free speech on the internet.
Given the aggregation of social media under fewer and fewer owners and banners that speech is surely threatened. Especially as that banner is Identity Politics. An ideology that is inherently self-dividing, and will continue to exclude "dissenters" in their aim for the most oppressed and most "pure" vocal outraged virtue-signallers. That in turn will not only make Dissenter a voice for those having been cast out, but bring with them their own political view. I am very far from being a nazi myself.

sites with a limited number of users are precisely where the MINITRU-masters segregate the free-thinkers to in order to keep them from polluting the minds of their sheep herds.

those mainstream sites go hilariously apeshit the first time the thought police catch a whiff of words such as nigger, kike, faggot, or 'the holocaust is a hoax.'

modern day freedom of speech is a myth.

and. stop using big words. it makes you look like an idiot.

There's workarounds for that, and while those workaround may not reach mainstream because people are dumb, casual users will notice how the system works by unique URLs and how those can change by pressing reply to a forum to get a quote copied.

Besides, it's not like it really was designed for forums in the first place. It's for those Youtube videos, and CNN articles where there is no comment section. The URL isn't going to change when you visit those videos or articles.
