These past few days have been... Rather harrowing for me. And as I read news reports and comments on such on numerous sites, I can tell I'm not alone at all. Fear has gripped this world, from the poor to the rich alike. Young and old. Even now, I fear somewhat for my family as looters begin to ravage the major US cities even though I myself sit in relative safety. And right along with all this chaos, we're really beginning to see just how much people misunderstand what America used to stand for. What it REALLY meant to be American. But it makes sense. There's so much corruption in high places now. How could you NOT be disillusioned if you did not have a firm basis on such in the first place?
To put it lightly, I do not have faith in this current presidential administration to handle this national situation with the grace and delicacy it needs, nor do I have faith in congress to do so. So what does that mean? Well... If things continue as they are, and if the government gets scared enough, they may start enacting certain laws to curtail, or "suspend" certain important rights. Martial law may even be declared, and if that's so, then, justified or not, we may very well slide into Civil War 2: Electric Boogaloo. And we're not exactly gonna be having Captain America on our side for this one.
Ladies and gentlemen, my dear and fellow brothers and sisters... The time may come very soon here when we will all need to ask ourselves and decide on what we are willing to fight for. What we are willing to die for. The answer to that will be particular to every single person, and I cannot and should not answer it for you. In the end, I don't know what will happen. Maybe this whole letter will be for nothing, and this situation somehow manages to salvage itself. (I very much doubt it.) All I can say is this. Don't lose sight of what's true and right in this world. I know some people here aren't religious in any way, but you don't need to be in order to understand basic truths. What humans need both to survive and to be happy.
Don't lose sight of right and wrong, despite what anyone, even your dearest family member tries to tell you. We can get through this. If we fall into civil war, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it and say that this will end nicely. We're looking at a long and bloody fight. Infrastructure will be shifty at best. Basic supplies will suddenly become incredibly valuable. But despite this, we shouldn't constantly look to the past and mourn. Our fathers also had to fight in bloody wars. And now, sad to say, this may be our time. This may be our war. And if it is, let us fight for what is right with distinction and honor.
I wish you the best through all of this, and I hope that you will have the courage to be a good man or woman, whoever you are. I hope that we can stand together defending what is right and just until this situation is finally and blessedly resolved. When we can all finally go home again in peace. Until then, remember and be courageous.
