Use Steam. Run it as a non-Steam game using Proton. That is the quickest method. As to the DE for Windows XP, there's actually a lot of Windows XP lookalike skins for KDE (heaviest but even KDE is still light nowadays), XFCE (middle of the road for features and performance), and even IceWM (lightest but lacking the most features).
