It can quickly get annoying, but it's also pretty nice being a ghost on the internet. Comes with a lot of perks.

  • @ Vendor-Lazarus:
The only major "social media" I use is reddit (niche sub-reddits only). If that even counts as social media. No insta, tiktok, facebook, twitter, whatsapp, snapchat, etc. Surviving is easy. Then again, I've never needed to socialize with other people. Most humans are social creatures though. Sounds exhausting to me, having to focus on annoying and ultimately pointless drama.

  • @ Arnox:
Yeah but it's annoying because it does cut you off from otherwise very easy social access points. One can definitely still get by, but you gotta be at least somewhat socially independent and/or have a good way around that major impediment.

I walk around town, and sometimes, people get very curious about me. But there's no information about me that is able to be accessed on popular social media, so they have to resort to asking me sometimes awkward questions just to get any information about me.

I think that's just normal irl conversation. I've only been asked for my socials once in my life, by a much younger person. Has your experience been different?

It generally is normal conversation, hence why I said sometimes. Other times though, I can tell people people are pretty damn curious about me. And of course, that's not a bad thing at all. I just found it a little funny.

It's modern Microsoft. You will feel violated, period.

and google will groom you into thinking it's okay to be violated.

    Ya'll know about https://annas-archive.li/ right? I think I remember a thread about Sci-Hub and Z-Lib, but I couldn't find it through search.

  • @ Gauche:
Yeah - hate how ebook formats focus on small file size so images/comics get fucked over - only real hope is pdfs - diary of a wimpy kid is a comic posing as a book so it has a shit ton of ebook entries that scrunch the images/cuts them in half between pages due to fucked formatting/or worse, remove the images entirely
    Link
  • @ Gauche:
Even classic ebooks with +1k downloads have their cover art fucked by the format compression

    Perhaps this one? https://intosanctuary.com/index.php?threads/how-to-get-nearly-every-book.1690/

We should use a thread to track it when it goes up or down. Sometimes we just post a message in the chat, but that gets lost easily

Not much point really. If LibGen goes down, Anna's Archive usually serves as a good backup 99% of the time.

Yeah, but on the other hand, if they got the full scan of such books at full quality, that would take up so much more space in storage.

  • @ Arnox:
It's honestly a miracle already how Anna's Archive and LibGen are storing and making available their entire collections and all while the authorities are breathing down their neck.

Don't you need a login for Anna's Archive?

  • @ Arnox:
I never did. You only need to login if you download off one of the fast servers. The slow servers are freely available to anyone.
