I used megagames.com for a while for No-CD fixes and the like, but I haven't really used them in a long time as I never really needed them after my piracy days were over. Checking back, they still seem good, but I don't know. Using trainers is always risky as their intended purpose is, of course, to lock into and change RAM data as a cheat.

I don't condone cheating for online games though. Fuck that. If you do that, you're an asshole.

I just use cheatengine. Lots of things are easy to do manually. Look at a value, punch it in, change the value, punch it in, and 80% of the time, you get the address you want. And if you can't, chances are you can google up a file with the values you need.

Cheat Engine. Its neat putting 99 into all the item values and seeing things that were unreleased. Take Monster Monpiece for example. The PSP Vita version had items awards for online play. The Steam version has no online however those items are still in the base game but can't be exchanged for anything. Monster Monpiece also had some event items (unlocked certain cards like Thor) which are normally unobtainable but cheat engine changes that. Also, I've been playing Yggdra Union and with cheat engine you can transform your units into boss characters and shit. Turned my useless Cruz into a Golem.

Lets you tap into how the game was programmed. Like all RPGM values are 2x + 1

While I still could buy games from brick-and-mortar stores, I often used GameCopyWorld and GameBurnWorld for No-CD fixes.
Never used nor will use, trainers or Cheat Engine.

As for help and walkthroughs, I often end up at GameBanshee or a game Wiki/gamepedia/fandom page.
As always, DuckDuckGo and forums are your friend.

Can't say I've ever used a trainer (no idea what they actually do) or cheatengine, but megagames.com brings back memories. Used to spend a fair bit of time lookinjg through the cheat codes there (does that count?)

What if its secondhand cheating? Take gta v for example and the money hacks. I never personally did it, but on more than one occasion i was on a server with someone who did and who would end up giving everyone ridiculous amounts of cash. I never asked for it, but i definitely used it to grief and get 'high-end' stuff

That's much more murky. Kind of a "not great but whatever" situation.

The only time I've used a trainer was to get that jump rope achievement in Final Fantasy IX. Fuck doing that normally.

Oh, and I had to load my game later anyway, because I lost the reward to a bad game of cards.
