Laurel or Yanny?

Seems there's something new ( new to me as I just found out about it ) going around;

Apparently, people hear something different, some hear Laurel ( me! ), others hear Yanny, which do you hear?

Curious... Can't wait for someone to detail why people hear this particular clip differently.

If it isn't some prank where a different audio feed is loaded every now and then.

I only hear Laurel. I've heard say it's actually both at once, with Laurel in the lower end and Yanny in the higher pitches.

So, I pulled the clip into Audition, isolated the high end overtones and it was still Laurel. Then I took off my good headphones and played it through my crappy laptop speakers at low volumes, which muddied the clip enough to very vaguely sound like 'yarel'.

I couldn't get the sound to load in the reddit thread, nor the NYTimes article, so I had to hunt around youtube.
First few videos all I heard was Laurel.

Where I finally heard Yanny..sort of.

Though it doesn't entirely compute.
I can hear humming and squeals from electronics and power lines, and if a restaurant has a bird-scare doohickey I can't even get close to it.

Well now, listening to it with my headphones, I hear it asaurel but not only that, the voice itself sounds very different.

Yanny in a stupid voice, Laurel in a low, gruff and muffled voice barely obfuscated underneath.

I should point out I hear both at the same time, but the 'laurel' sounds more like 'oral'. Mainly because the high pitched 'Yah' bit obfuscates it.

I wouldn't have been able to know it was 'Laurel' unless if someone asked me to hear it. I would have said 'oral' or 'aural'. I can definitely hear two different voices (synthesised) saying two different things, and anybody who says different is deaf.

Oh my God, I can hear BOTH now! I literally hear “Laurel” in a deep male voice and “Yanny” in a nasally, impish voice at the same time and/or interchangeably! What kind witchcraft is this?
