All Scummy Game Monetization Schemes Laid Out in One Nice Video

YongYea's a little late to the party on this one.

Is anyone surprised that they have a panel about nickel and diming the player at this point? We've known for years that game companies use scummy tactics to get you to spend (re: Dungeon keeper mobile and EA or Activision's patent to pair players with big spenders) with EA going so far as to both break a gambling law in sweden (or was it norway?) and describe lootboxes as both "surprsie mechanics" and "ethical". AAA companies don't care about games (and haven't for a long time) they only care about milking the player for every dollar they can. IMO regulation can't come soon enough, they've lost any chance to self-regulate at this point.

Since its related to monetization, GTA has added a casino with actual gambling now
It sounds like they've added a secondary currency (chips) that can't be brought with real money, but are instead brought with in-game currency (which you can buy) and use a 1-1 ratio. There is no way that they can sit there and say "oh, its not gambling" when you are literally gambling.

Wow.. GTA (Online) ..How you have fallen since 2.
Also, do they think they can circumvent things by not offering Chips for direct purchase?

I'm not against gambling ...per say..Only when it becomes excessive..
I don't think ads should be allowed for such things for example, and these gambling games must be able to verify age of the gambler.
But I digress...and despair. Especially reading the comments on that youtube vid.
Most only complaining that it isn't available in their country. ...

Its kinda fucked, how people are more sad about not being able to gamble rather than actual gambling making its way into games.

If you can't "cash out" and turn those chips into IRL currency, then I think that doesn't count. Or at least, I would think that's how it works.

Wikipedia wasn't much help. the best i could find was this line " In other forms, gambling can be conducted with materials which have a value, but are not real money. " which is what I'd describe those chips as, but i couldn't find much that specified whether you have to be able to"cash out".
Also the first two articles I found directly refrenced GTA's casino and the last result on the first page refrenced fifa 18.

I've seen videos about this before but this is on another level it gets down to the very science of it. Does that mean that this presentation is constitutional?
