Does anyone else have an interest in the warhammer 40k universe?
I'm not a fan of the tabletop game itself, I found it to be just a little too time consuming and dull to play, but i am a fan of the lore, novels and stories set in the universe. I think that's were its at its best. Speaking of lore, I thought the sudden change in necron lore was kinda interesting, giving them more personallity rather than just robo-zombies. I lost intrest for awhile but now i come back and cadias fallen, space marines got a redesign, a primarch came back ( i think, could be mistaken though), the imperiums been splintered or something, what exactly happened here?

I haven't played much of the dawn of war series either, but i have played the spacemarine game and fire warrior. Spcaemarine was okay but fire warrior was just terrible (admittedly it was ps2 area but thats still no excuse).

The universe is ok, but my only engagement with it was one of the tabletop rule sets. It wasn't very well balanced at all.

I heard tabletop Warhammer was brutally hard. My question is, is it hard but fair, or is it just cheap, as in enemies have 5000 HP and such?

I'd say it leans more towards to cheap side. Roll to hit, roll to wound, roll to save so maybe a squad gets 6 shots on the enemy but only 2 actually do anything, maybe your launcher scatters and completely misses, maybe you plasma gun backfires and wounds your unit instead. Some might have special rules, like the necrons 'We'll be back' that allows them to repair a dead unit and bring it back into the fight.
With that being said my knowledge is based off 7th edition and I've heard they've streamlined/simplified 8th edition so i don't know if the same rules are still around

All I know is I wanted to play a rouge-type, and so I took the "scum" class. Another party member took Cleric, and got at least 500x the starting money I did. Hell, I didn't even have enough starting money to buy the gun my class came with. The cleric was able to afford armor and custom weapons of the player's choosing. When you view the skill tree, there wasn't anything special I could have done as a scum that he couldn't have done as a cleric. The game would be best played with all clerics since they are government funded.
