First of all, I'm definitely not a Bill Murray hater. I loved the first Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day's a classic to me. I also like me a good old wacky military comedy. Nevertheless, while this film definitely succeeds with the laughs in some parts, it fails in a lot of others, or sometimes, it doesn't even seem to be trying. Bill Murray gets off some wingers, but even he sounds kind of bored at times with the movie and is just trying to get through it. Maybe the director was trying to go for a somewhat more serious movie, but Bill was trying to steer it in a much more comedic direction? I don't know.
There's also a fuckton of nudity. Like even for an 80s comedy. And maybe I could perhaps look past that if the jokes landed more consistently, but since they don't, it's weird. It's like I'm in a bad porno sometimes. Also doesn't help that this movie has some pretty awkward attitudes towards women as well. I get it. That was how it was at the time. Still though, it means the movie hasn't aged very well.
In summary, I suppose if you're a diehard Bill Murray fan, you may want to see this movie. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.
