Maybe I'm just behind with the times but NoPayStation is a thing that exists. Apparently it lets you download games directly from Sony's servers.
Download a program, set up some settings and you have a list of 8300+ Playstation games available to grab on their dime.

Why hasn't someone downloaded everything and thrown up a torrent is beyond me.

Pretty fucked up honestly. Sony has made it difficult for piracy to affect them but this just undermines everything in their digital library.
Time for me to pick up a Vita.

There probably already are torrents of PS games, but it doesn't quite matter as you probably have to hack your console to play them.

Correct.

Torrents for PS1, 2 & PSP do exist, as does a few file-sharing site choices

Some modifications are required for roms. PS1 requires a chip soldered to the board or you can use a disc swap method (haven't tried it, too much of a hassle personally). PS2 needs both a modified game disc (007: Agent under fire is the go-to) along with some physical mods (just taping down sensors and adjusting the break pad), then you've got a few options for how you want it to read roms, you can also load emulators which is kinda neat. PSP/Vita just need custom firmware and a suitably sized memory card. Not sure what mods a PS3/4 would need because i'm not particularly interested in modding them yet.

PS1 library titles are small enough to be hosted on rom sites.
Was never able to find the entire PS2 library. Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection will forever elude me.
The PSP library is definitely covered in a single torrent. Doesn't include the DLCs though.
Found the US releases for the Vita in one torrent but none of the other regions. Japan has all the weeb titles like Boku to Nurse no Kenshu Nisshi.
Then again this might all be on private trackers somewhere as I only check search engine results.

PS3 became easily hackable almost two years back. I've been too lazy to set it up. Really want to play Catherine.
Haven't looked into the PS4 scene.

To my surprise this is still around - still no all encompassing torrent though

Just wanted to share that the Jill and Shuma-Gorath character unlock for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (BLUS30410) is also compatible with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (BLUS30787). Obligatory: fuck on disc content unlocks

I heard there's a new hack out for the PS1 where you put a modified save game on your memory card, and then a legit game can become a swap disk. Sounds a lot cheaper than the way I used to have to do it.

I prefer to emulate these days anyway. I can get PS2 and older running on just about anything considered modern.

Updating seventh generation of console games+ is gonna be a pain

Take MvC3 as an example, a fighting game with balance patches
You've gotta search it up and find it documented online how many patches it got - 2
Then you've got to read the patch notes and evaluate what version you want to run with
Aw shit, there are no official patch notes for the first one, only the second has details
Then you've got to track down the download and install
Repeat for every game

Unpopular titles are probably a lost cause

At that point, I'd just play it stock and forget it.
