Before I lay into this film, I want to say this first and foremost. The animation work in this movie is easily a straight up 9/10. Like, holy hell, this is some absolute fucking chad animation. When I see in major reviews that this movie's art inspired so much other future sci-fi out there, I believe it. The ONLY reason I don't give a full 10/10 in the animation department is that the design of the faces for some characters seem kinda off. Tetsuo has a major case of 5head and the faces of a few other characters in here look a little too rounded or have too wide jaws. That is it. And even that stuff is just incidental to the utterly gorgeous art that was done for this movie. Vaporwave artists everywhere rejoice in this movie.
Alright. On to the thrashing then. So I picked up the dubbed version of the movie, and I gotta say, that was very probably a HUGE fucking mistake on my part because this movie has some of the WORST english dubbing I've ever seen in any animated movie or show, period. It is laughably comically bad. The voices just do not match many of the characters and are sometimes full on out of sync with their mouths. But worst of all by far, the line placement is hella awkward, and the actual delivery itself is pure unfiltered cringe, and anyone who thinks that this is good dubbing has their taste in their ass. Sorry, guys. It's science.
But hey, maybe the plot itself is interesting- Ehhh, no. Not really, no. Ghost in the Shell's plot (especially the second movie) may be pretty hard to follow, sure, but at least there's a clear LINE to follow. This movie's plot, in comparison, is absolutely opaque at times. Who is that? Why do they look like that? Who is this machine for? Nobody knows! :)

And it's not like you don't have to understand what's going on to at least understand basically what you're seeing in this movie, because you absolutely do, and if you don't... Well, too bad. Scene end. Black screen. Roll credits. And while we're discussing the plot's faults, why does everyone care so much about fucking Tetsuo? I suppose he's tolerable for a while until he
We haven't even gotten to the creepy-ass children too, but whatever. They speak for themselves I think. So... Is Akira worth a watch? Yes! Just, you know... With the sound completely muted. :)

gets his powers and then starts acting like a murderous dick to everyone including those he considered his friends. When he started doing that shit, all the sympathy I might have had for him was completely gone and I just wanted to see him get splattered.
