Yeah, it's good to know you can opt out of facial scanning if you're flying domestically, but it can be tricky for international travelers. I’ve been through a few airports recently where they offer the option, but you have to ask about it ahead of time. Yeah usually internationally speaking, if you're not a citizen, your rights generally go WAY down. Saved though by the fact that pretty much all 1st and 2nd world countries will avoid doing anything too egregious to you to avoid a diplomatic incident. As long as you're not illegally crossing borders anyway.
