Reviewing My Current Steam Wishlist for Funsies

I haven't looked at my Steam wishlist for a while, so let's explore this old thing together, shall we? Games are sorted by the date I added them to the list from oldest to newest. (By the way, a lot of these are on, or are now on GOG. I'd definitely advise picking these games up there instead of Steam if possible, but you do you. The ones that are on GOG will have an asterisk at the end of their name.)

1. Maximum Action*
Genre: Modern Day First Person Shooter
Added on: 6/18/2019

Gmanlives did a review of this game an age ago and I decided it looked good. Also looks like it's been abandoned though as it's still in early access after almost FIVE YEARS.

2. Squad 44 (Formerly Post Scriptum)
Genre: WWII First Person Shooter
Added on: 1/30/2020

What Battlefield V was supposed to be apparently. This a fully realistic WWII FPS with some really nice graphics backing it up. Vehicles are in it as well, so it's not just WWII Insurgency, although that would be just fine even if it was.

3. Disco Elysium*
Genre: Isometric Story-Heavy Modern Day RPG
Added on: 3/15/2020

An RPG set in the modern day with a ton of freedom given to you. This one is supposed to be a bit weird but really damn good and deep.

4. Destroy All Humans!*
Genre: Sci-Fi Open World Third Person Shooter
Added on: 7/29/2020

Remaster of a classic from Pandemic Studios. Not as good as Mercenaries at all. Actually debating removing this one from the list since I still have the original for the Xbox, but I also heard this remaster offers a lot of good improvements over the base game, so... I guess I'll just keep it on the list for now.

5. MADNESS: Project Nexus
Genre: Top Down Shooter
Added on: 8/30/2020

There was once a popular flash game called Madness Interactive. I think there were already other flash movies in that universe before the game, but that's how I know of this IP. The flash game though was a small arena sandbox filled with melee weapons, guns, and plenty of enemies, modes, and challenges to sink your teeth into. Well... After over a decade, the same developers came out and made this gem. Feels like a total evolution of that old fun flash game in every way.

6. Prodeus*
Genre: Sci-Fi First Person Shooter
Added on: 11/14/2020

Doom 2016 if it was made by a (good) indie studio. Comes with an easy mapmaker and some nice multiplayer bundled in too. A very nice package. Just like the one I got downstairs for your mom.

7. Horizon Zero Dawn*
Genre: Sci-Fi Open World Third Person Shooter
Added on: 12/23/2020

Heard it was good. They put it on Steam. Seemed to be complete and a good game. I added to list. Honestly though, my interest for playing this game is really starting to wane. May be removed. Wondering if I'm actually missing anything at this point by not playing it.

8. Baldur's Gate 3*
Genre: Isometric Fantasy RPG
Added on: 6/15/2021

It's Baldur's Gate 3. You damn well know what this game is by this point. Get it, you fuckers. (Yes, they completely patched out all the in-your-face romance stuff a while ago, so don't worry about that.)

9. Valheim
Genre: Third Person Open World Viking Simulator
Added on: 6/15/2021

Not sure I'm fully sold on this game but it does look sort of interesting, and people won't shut the hell up about it either.

10. SuchArt: Genius Artist Simulator
Genre: First Person Art Simulation
Added on: 7/14/2021

A rather wholesome and unique game. It's pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. Make art from portraits to sculptures to structures and try to get famous! Kind of like adult KidPix. I'll admit, spending time learning and playing with Blender would probably be a MUCH more productive use of your artistic time than playing this game, but hey, sometimes you just wanna blast paint on a car with some funny shapes and call it a day.

11. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - Enhanced Edition*
Genre: Isometric Fantasy RPG
Added on: 9/6/2021

A spiritual successor of sorts to Neverwinter Nights. Runs on Pathfinder 1E so it's basically just D&D 3.5E+ rules. Depending on your attitude towards complex RPG systems, this will either be the best game ever made or a complete slog. I have always said though that Pathfinder 1E strikes me as a very good system for computers to run.

12. Arma Reforger
Genre: Modern Day First Person Shooter
Added on: 6/18/2019

Cold War DLC for Arma 3. Tempting but there's still connection bugs, hit registration bugs, and perhaps one or two stability problems with it from what I can pick up. Probably not worth it and may be removed.

13. Dwarf Fortress
Genre: Top Down Fantasy Simulation
Added on: 12/7/2022

The insanely detailed dwarf simulator that we all know and love now with a graphical facelift on Steam and a few other features. Hey, why not.

14. OTXO
Genre: Top Down Modern Day Shooter
Added on: 9/16/2023

In the vein of Hotline Miami except MUCH better combat. Or at least according to Raycevick. Also, some phat beats. Madness may be a better buy though between the two if I had to guess.

15. The Talos Principle 2
Genre: First Person Sci-Fi Puzzler
Added on: 11/3/2023

The first Talos Principle was pretty good with a beautiful soundtrack on top of it. And after the kinda bad release of Serious Sam 4, it thankfully looks like Croteam is finally getting their ass back into gear if Talos Principle 2 is anything to go by. Sadly slipped under everyone's radar when it released including mine, but yes. I'm looking forward to playing this.

16. Palworld
Genre: Third Person Sci-Fi Creature Collector
Added on: 1/19/2024

Twitch streamers apparently really love this one. And hey, it does look halfway interesting. Basically, it's Pokemon but more mature and made by an actually competent developer.

17. Vampire Therapist
Genre: Fantasy Visual Novel
Added on: 1/19/2024

A game where you give therapy to vampires. They say they've actually brought in licensed psychologists to vet this game so I'm rather interested. Hasn't come out yet though.

Dwarf Fortress is/was good (I heard it's woke now), although I'm not so sure about the steam exclusive GUI one. It worked just fine with mods like Lazy Newb Pack. Disco Elysium is also supposed to be woke. And BG3 is still woke btw.

Mine's 140+ long, and mostly used to keep abreast of Early Access and Coming Soon games. Should I list them anyway?

There are no shooters on there. It's mostly Metroidvanias, Survival Builders, and some 4X, City Builders, H'n'S, STACS, and WRPG's.

This one is pretty good, mostly in terms of the lore for me, but it is honestly not for everyone. The gameplay if I had to describe it is a mix of what the Witcher 3 was overall with basic stealth elements, you got a bit of a clunky melee combat system and the rest is all ranged with bows mostly and a few other gadgets along with a basic crafting system for your ammo and consumables.

You should buy it as soon as you have time to play it. It's genuinely as good as any classic Doom. Worth full price IMO.

Totally forgot about humble bundles. Used to check them all the time when I still had a fledgling Steam library. They're probably still a great deal for anyone looking to expand their Steam collection but I'm not sure if they offer GOG keys for games (if available for the game). I think they do.
