I picked up a little dongle recently that converts the ps2's standard output to HDMI. Very convenient.
The plan was to then run an HDMI cable to one of my monitors and use that to play it, but here is where the problems arise.
I have a 32" curved monitor that is my primary one, with HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. The secondary monitor is a 21.5", with DisplayPort, DVI and VGA.
Using the primary monitor was out of the question because it was connected to my pc via HDMI, luckily though I have an HDMI to DVI cable so I can plug it into the second monitor. Technically, this does work but the audio wont work unless I run a separate headphone cable from the dongle to the monitor and it seems to letterbox the video at 1440 x 268. Nothing I've tried has been able to fix this.
So then I brought a DisplayPort cable to connect the primary monitor to my PC via that and use the HDMI input to run the PS2. This brings a new set of issues.
Firstly, sometimes it wont detect it at all and even if it does detect it, I get a "not optimum mode" message. I've tried different HDMI cables and I've tried routing it through my capture card and nothing works.
And for the sake of being thorough, I pulled out an old monitor that also has an HDMI input and I get the same message. And for the sake of being extra thorough, I even tested using the capture cards component/composite connection, but I still get the same issues. I've even tested different PS2's to make sure it wasn't just an issue with a specific model.
TLDR; PS2 will only connect to my secondary monitor when I use an HDMI to DVI cable, rather than my connecting to my primary monitor with an HDMI cable
