For those that don't know, a shiny pokemon is a pokemon that is exactly the same as any other pokemon, only it's a different color. No enhanced stats (other than Gen 2), no special dialogue, nothing. Just a different color, and some of them are so close to their original color that you can't tell the difference without in-game "shiny indicators" ie. Sparkles around the pokemon when sent into battle, or a little star on the pokemon's summary page.
What makes them so special? Rarity. There's only a 1/8192 chance of encountering one. After Gen 6 it's been increased to 1/4096 for some retarded reason. There are ways to increase your chances, but I consider them cheating, and you can read more about them here:

This is pretty much all I do after beating the main story in pokemon games. It's a lot of pain in the ass for not a lot of reward but I like it, and to me that's all that matters.
So far I've only caught two: A shiny Magikarp on LeafGreen and a shiny Starly on Diamond. Unfortunately I no longer have those games so I am shiny-less at the moment. I am currently saved in front of Bebe in Hearthome city in pokemon platinum, attempting to hunt shiny Eevee. I speak to her, accept the eevee, check the summary page. If it's not shiny, soft reset the game and try again. Been at it off and on for 22 days now, nothing yet.
Anyone else do this, or play Pokemon in general? I was a HUGE pokemon fan as a kid, then somewhat as an adult. Played pokemon Go for a while but after I got a job working twelve hour shifts I no longer had time for it. Besides Go I haven't played any pokemon game since black and I never finished it
Also, Lake of Rage Gyarados doesn't count.
