Juicebox's Shiny Pokemon Hunting Thread

For those that don't know, a shiny pokemon is a pokemon that is exactly the same as any other pokemon, only it's a different color. No enhanced stats (other than Gen 2), no special dialogue, nothing. Just a different color, and some of them are so close to their original color that you can't tell the difference without in-game "shiny indicators" ie. Sparkles around the pokemon when sent into battle, or a little star on the pokemon's summary page.

What makes them so special? Rarity. There's only a 1/8192 chance of encountering one. After Gen 6 it's been increased to 1/4096 for some retarded reason. There are ways to increase your chances, but I consider them cheating, and you can read more about them here:

This is pretty much all I do after beating the main story in pokemon games. It's a lot of pain in the ass for not a lot of reward but I like it, and to me that's all that matters.

So far I've only caught two: A shiny Magikarp on LeafGreen and a shiny Starly on Diamond. Unfortunately I no longer have those games so I am shiny-less at the moment. I am currently saved in front of Bebe in Hearthome city in pokemon platinum, attempting to hunt shiny Eevee. I speak to her, accept the eevee, check the summary page. If it's not shiny, soft reset the game and try again. Been at it off and on for 22 days now, nothing yet.

Anyone else do this, or play Pokemon in general? I was a HUGE pokemon fan as a kid, then somewhat as an adult. Played pokemon Go for a while but after I got a job working twelve hour shifts I no longer had time for it. Besides Go I haven't played any pokemon game since black and I never finished it

Also, Lake of Rage Gyarados doesn't count.

I never did that, and I stopped playing pokemon after the Diamond and Pearl generation.

I don't think I'll ever own another Nintendo system again, so unless they start releasing a PC version, I think I'm done with pokemon forever

Less than 10 minutes ago, my friend got a shiny Roselia in Pokemon Go.

I like the main series too, but I skip generations a lot. They are a bit grindy for the time I want to spend.

For me, I would be all about creating the best team to link battle with. Even though I never had the opportunity to do any link battles... :(

I always did hate how the old pokemon games forced you to link trade or to buy two games, two gameboys, and a link cable just to get all the pokemon though. Such a load of shit.

Last one I played was LeafGreen. Before that, Gold. I'd like to play HeartGold sometime though.

Last one I played was diamond, and I lost my ds while moving

I found it recently, then randomly decided to go get platinum

A couple months later, I have heartgold, a 3ds, and alpha sapphire

I wonder if shiny pokemon are more common in pokemon Go, seems like everyone I know that plays has at least one

They are A LOT more common. They have these 3 hour community events once a month, and if you're playing for all 3 hours, you're bound to catch one per hour.

I see. Hopefully they don't make them transferable to the main games, that would wreck the rarity of shinies in the main games
