Creator's Description: How many times have I heard about platforms like Gab and Parler blowing chunks for one reason or another, but we at Sanctuary get absolutely zero attention... WE'RE RIGHT HERE, DAMN IT!

Clip Source(s): Behind Enemy Lines (2001)
Sanctuary uses that kind of old, ancient, 90's forum style doesn't it? So unlit. Not hip at all. We want facebook and twitter, but not facebook and twitter, you know? /s

Thankfully, I've seen some ill will against those platforms in the more popular circles. The mood I'm getting is that a lot of people hate them, but they use them because they don't feel they have a better alternative. There is hope! Also, look at how many damn users SpaceHey got despite using a (conventionally) outdated format.

People use Gab or Minds or MeWe or Gettr or Win-communities or Telegram or Signal though. Instead of forums. If they can't or wont use the mainstream places. Both being places that foster Follow and Followers & Likes and Reposts. You could use that against them, and spread your forum on those places. In the relevant groups/places. Free Speech & Alt-tech and such.

There is one alternative that is growing, I dont quite know how it works. But its the concept of distributed/decentralized social networking. Like...websites with their own flavour and touch, rules and what not. Systems. But they are all interconnected. I wanted to make something like this for videosharing sites but Im note a coder just a designer.

Anyway federations its called. I hold out hope it will be a little bit like webrings at least.

There is actually a (now well-funded) project underway headed by Ian Clarke, the guy who made FreeNet. First version of FreeNet allows an uncensorable and anonymous web, but it was pretty slow, being pretty much a shared hard disk secured through cryptography. Ian Clarke wants to greatly improve it though with Locutus, basically making a giant cloud server for everything, and he's made significant strides already.
