Theory: Jirard (The Completionist) Is Taking the Fall for His Family

What I think is going on is that his family was either grossly incompetent or was actually skimming money from the charity. Jirard himself just does not strike me as a person likely to commit charity fraud, and especially not charity fraud concerning an illness his own mother had. This is the only thing I can think of that fully explains both his and the charity's actions, or should I say, lack of them.

Whether he strikes you as incapable of doing this because of what he seems to be outwardly is irrelevant. Even if he did not really know any of this, which I seriously doubt, he is still guilty by association he is after all the main boss and face of the charity no matter who he puts in charge of running the thing in the day to day. He is also guilty of negligence and gross incompetence, he kept telling us at first he didn't know that any of these things were actually happening, but as the head of a charitable foundation you can't just put someone there and forget about the whole thing for years and have zero accountability. Remember that they were never compelled to donate any of the money until this shitstorm began, it was all sitting on some account, only now that everyone is on him and his organization did the money actually get donated.

I don't follow him so I can't make any judgments from having a parasocial relationship with him, but I have this strong sense the whole thing stemmed from apathy and procrastination. The money is there, it only ever gets used for generating more money, and whatever charity will accept the lump sum will get it once it's donated. Whenever that is.

Now, is that the reality of what he was doing? I can't say with any certainty. I do think after 10 years there would have been some stronger indicators of malfeasance if that was his intent all along. There definitely is some responsibility he has neglected to basically criminal levels, so I'm not trying to mitigate blame.
