Your parents were so proud of you when you got into the Order of Aria. An institution where only the best of the best made it. There were rumors about the place, but neither you nor your family ever paid attention to such gossip. Before you officially got in, you were tested and questioned extensively by stern experienced evaluators. The tests were somewhat grueling, but you passed them all along with a select few of the other potentials. And then... You woke up in a prison cell. The place you were in now was almost certainly not the Order.

For a year, you have been treated as scum in this place. A murderer of the highest degree of abhorrence. But don't worry. They would now fix you. Or at least, they certainly did their best. You resisted with a surprising show of passionate rage. You made every attempt to escape, and sometimes, you were almost able to free yourself, but there would always be something in the way that you couldn't get past. The very idea of giving in to their control and "fixing" utterly disgusted you to your core, but as the months rolled by, your rage-fueled resistance began to grow less and less. You still hated your captors, but a combination of hopelessness and calmness began to suffuse you. At this point, you didn't know when you would ever be free.

Then, after a particularly long psychologically painful session chained to a chair with some other prisoners around likewise bound, you overheard a conversation behind a half-opened door between the male administrator of your prison and one of the female mages who were trying to "fix" you.

Mage: "... Think we've made some real progress. We can now reverse her effects on the population with no issue. But our work on these prisoners we've been experimenting on... I don't know. They're still very resistant to our work."

Administrator: "I don't give a... I only care about reversing what that cunt did to us all. I think we've extracted as much information as we can out of these prisoners. Throw them into the hole for long-term storage."

Mage: "But I've... We've made so much progress. Perhaps if I were allowed to continue a little longer, I could further our knowledge of-"

Administrator: "Did you not hear me? Throw them into the hole. Hopefully, I don't have to see or hear about them ever again."

Then you heard the sound of footsteps, and then a door opening and quickly closing shut with a snap. Silence...

A short time passed and the next thing you knew, you were being forcibly taken out of your cell and being transported in magical chains to... Somewhere. You didn't know what this "hole" was, but you soon found out as you and some other prisoners you never met before were pulled into a sort of large room with a clear orb on the pedestal a short distance away from them. The orb seemed to have a galaxy swirling inside. It was rather pretty actually. Then another administrator came in, this one rather heavyset. You imagined he was the warden of this "hole". He looked distractedly at a piece of parchment as he came in, muttering to himself.

"Another group of rats, huh? Alright then."

He then positioned himself before the orb and them and stretched out his hand, speaking two exotic words.

"Xiada surfow."

Then a rumbling and you soon felt the very matter of your body getting sucked into the orb. You blacked out, then in. Your mind felt like a lead weight as you slowly came to, blinking heavily as your eyes were immediately hit by the blinding light of the desert sun reflected on the sand dunes. Then you were jerked to your feet.

"Up! Naow! Not gonna wait in this hot as hell sun for yeh!"

As you came to your feet, you took stock of your surroundings. You and the other prisoners were in a vast desert now surrounded by some surly guards, and before you was a large vast sandstone castle.

Welcome to Xiada. The Hole.

Your Bloody Penance

In the past few games, you chose a faction, but for this game in particular, you will not choose one. Instead, you will simply specify your character's name, gender, and personality and then we will go from there. You cannot choose a past character you have ran in the past games. This must be a new character. Everyone will start with 30 HP. (CHANGED FROM THE ORIGINAL) During combat, if you reach 0 HP, you are now Downed. You can't do anything except lay on the ground and speak. Any other player can bring you back out of the Downed state with 4 HP, but it will take 2 solid turns. On the 3rd turn, your character will be revived. If combat ends and there is no one willing to revive you, your character will die permanently. (CHANGED FROM THE ORIGINAL)

-

During a turn, assuming you're not engaged in active combat already, you can choose to attack anyone. If there is a boss, then they go first before any other player. If you choose to attack someone or something first, the usual attack order will still be followed, although combat will begin with your character going first. (CHANGED FROM THE ORIGINAL) After combat ends, and you are not Downed or have been Downed but were revived by a player, you will be healed for the full 30 HP. The players may begin moving again or submit an answer to solve any obstacles they may encounter.

-

Once all players submit a character, a new thread will be created, and the first turn will start. You have no idea where anything is, but a map will slowly be revealed to you as you go through Xiada.

Post-game backstory reveal and class stats:

You passed all the tests. And what awaited you at the Order of Aria was... Hell, in a word. You were expected to learn so much. Subjects under history, languages, command, combat, enchanting, and magic consumed your days. And somehow, you did it all even though you expected yourself to break down memorizing everything you were told about and shown and instructed on. And all the while suffering underneath the weight of beatings and incredibly stern instructors expecting no less than perfection, and gleefully punishing you when they found you inevitably lacking. You even had to deal with some sullen fellow students who, whether out of jealousy or just plain misguided anger, vented their pent up frustrations upon you. Competition was indeed greatly encouraged during class time, but any instructors seeing it out of class would ensure you getting booted out of the Order though, and this led to a few of your cohorts getting shoved out.

One of the few luxuries you got was being able to write home to your parents. And even that was monitored. No information on what you learned was permitted to leave the Order. No exceptions. The communication was one solace you had and your connection back to that home you began to greatly miss. You could have left at any time under an Oath of Silence, but you persevered. You didn't go through everything you did just to say, "Oh, I tried that once. Wasn't for me..." And so, you stayed. And then you began to finally work out a groove. Things that once seemed so tough and out of reach were second-nature to you. Things that made you afraid now just made you laugh a bit. And then, the final test. A week-long endurance and aptitude test pulling together everything you learned while also only giving you the absolute minimum of food and drinking water.

And once again, you showed that they would not break you. That you would not bend. Through all of that, you've come out incredibly disciplined, tough, intelligent, and with a now considerable knowledge of subjects 99% of people in Aria probably wouldn't have a clue about. You entered the Order with 99 other classmates alongside you. But after, only 11 of those had remained and succeeded as you did. Now, there was only one last thing to do. The Order was responsible for training Kraos' advisors, and she only accepted those who had fully gone through the rigorous training and tests. Beyond that though, you didn't know what quite awaited you next at all, which was incredibly weird to you. You were just told she wished to congratulate the 12 personally and get to know you all.

***

So... There all 12 of you were on horseback, being guided through an massive forest somewhat northeast of the kingdom of Aria to Kraos' Domain. You weren't even allowed to write to your parents this time before you set off. The trip took a few days, but you soon found yourself beginning to near a major castle buried in this forest. And as you began to near the place, you started to feel a sense of... Soft dreaminess. Like your mind was slowly entering into a pleasant warm mist as you came closer to the place.

You arrived, you dismounted, you walked up the chiseled stone steps to this rich but strange castle, your focus starting to slip away as your brain wanted to just check out and put everything on automatic. But you shook your head to clear this feeling out of your mind and you forced yourself to be disciplined and alert. Then you saw her. Once you had all entered the throne room, you laid eyes upon the most beautiful thing you had ever seen thus far sitting relaxed upon that iconic gold throne. At this point, the soft pleasurable dreaminess was incredibly strong now, inhibiting so much of your logical thought. Maybe this was a test. You didn't know. You had to practically form a spear of sheer steely discipline in your mind to get through it as best as you could, but it was like trying to get through a massive ton of cotton.

Then... You were calmly eating with her at her dinner table with the other 11 graduates. How did you get there? Again, you don't know. The time between you kneeling before her to you sitting at the table was blan- Suddenly that beautiful voice of hers began to make those thoughts begin to melt away. Why did you need to worry? It's alright.

"You're all going to be here with me now for such an amazing time~"

You looked up and stared into her red eyes, her disarming smile, as she swirled a glass of wine in her hand. Her gorgeously done red hair, her silky red dress... Then you were in your bedroom still within the castle at night, sitting up in your rather luxurious bed... Your bedroom? You looked around and it certainly seemed to be. There was nobody else in the room. Just you and... Soft bliss and a desire to obey pumping through every part of your body. This was all wrong. But try as much as you might to pull away from that soft overpowering happiness and desire, you...

Were now fully dressed. It was day time. You were walking through the halls holding an empty silver pitcher, on the way to bring it to Kraos just as she requested. Then you stopped in place. Why? Why were you doing this? Kraos certainly didn't need a silly pitcher... Soft gentle comforting whispers in your mind... That deep overpowering bliss... You were already beginning to sink into it again. But this time you bit your lip, dropping the pitcher, dropping to your knees, trying to fight off her control as beads of sweat formed on your body in stress and exertion. Her consuming presence inside your mind. To obey. You needed to obey. Don't worry~ Just let yourself slip~ Just obey~ Just obey...

Then you were in the throne room, all of you kneeling together in a large circle. A sudden panicked voice began to cut through the blissful fog. A panicked woman's voice. One of the kneeling women in the circle whom Kraos was kneeling next to, massaging her shoulder comfortingly and talking reassuringly to her. Almost whispering despite the woman's loud alarmed protests.

"Stop! Get out! GET OUT!!! I'm not your SLAVE... I'm not... I'm... "

"You will do so much good. And you will be so happy. It will not be for nothing..."

"I don't CARE. Leave me alone! Get out of my head! Please stop... Please, please... I don't want to be yours. I'm me. I'm just... I'm... "

Your heart panged with sympathy for her and you wanted to help. Wanted to jump in and agree. Wanted to do anything other than just sit here helplessly, kneeling obediently, but at this point, Kraos' control of you was so deep within you and seemingly impossible to resist. And you were already...

In a small field in the daytime just outside the castle, with Arbitrators coldly bringing in scared almost naked and chained prisoners. Kraos softly stepped out from behind you all and retrieved one of twelve exquisitely made longswords from a wooden weapons rack off to the left. The sword was gorgeous with a gleaming large ruby within its pommel. She then walked over to the first potential Arbitrator in the formed line you were in as the prisoners were forced down to the ground.

"It is time... Time for you to take your first step~"

"Yes, my Queen... "

Once it was your turn, you too, like the other eleven, served her obediently. Faithfully. Without question. The body before you collapsed to the ground, dead and lifeless, blood pouring into the grass, and the only thing you could feel was a mixture of potent focus, happiness, and an endless desire to obey your Queen forever.

After you were given your sword and rank, you were, lastly, magically tattooed with Kraos' mark upon your breast. Then you were sent out with your first orders.

You weren't in the field long compared to some other more experienced Arbitrators. Only about a year or so. And then... It happened. You could feel it inside you somewhat. That pain. That particular kind of pain that is only caused by loss.

Kraos had been killed... Somehow, she had been killed.

Her control lessened slightly and, of course, her mental connection to you all was severed, but Arbitrators were trained and enthralled and conditioned to such an astoundingly deep level that, even with Kraos gone now, you were all very much still in her thrall. And so, with that undying loyalty, you all continued to enforce her laws and governance, empty throne be damned. You would all carry on as if nothing had happened and continue to carry out all her past wishes.

But as the nation-state of Aria woke up to this new reality, things began to slowly crumble as the people became more and more unruly and defiant of the former Queen's rule. Without Kraos to keep everyone in line, even the Arbitrators could not keep order, as much as they tried and as powerful as they were. It was just too much dissidence. And along with all of this was Carmin stoking the flames. One of the few who had somehow emerged from that battle with Kraos, victorious. The Arbitrators cursed Carmin's very name. He wasn't even a citizen of Aria, but was from a bordering nation to the east. A filthy foreigner who had killed the Queen who had kept them all safe and happy for centuries upon centuries.

It was natural then that one of the first missions was to annihilate Carmin immediately. They sent five Arbitrators out to handle it, but they never returned. Before the rest of the Arbitrators could even give this any attention though, the revolts began to happen and all their attention was soon drawn away. It was all downhill from there. The Arbitrators fought to the very last to keep Kraos' rule alive, to defend a vacant throne, but they all were, sooner or later, killed or captured.

You were one of those captured and experimented on. They worked their hardest to break Kraos' spells and conditioning on you in hopes of further releasing the population from her much more subtle control, and while they, in the end, got what they wanted, and Kraos' control of you was greatly diminished as a result of that work, it was still somewhat present inside you. Even now as you stand in Xiada, you wonder if the psychological mark Kraos left on all Arbitrators will ever be able to be fully removed. And that was the scary part.

Even after you remember the crying girl in the throne room begging to leave, your very own parents that cried and mourned for you when they were told that you had perished while serving Kraos, and after you remember how much Kraos had raped and violated your mind to serve her completely and utterly, you STILL long inside of you to return to serving your Queen. Like a spent drug that was still lingering in your veins.

Possessed - Passive: Ethereal Intuition
During the start of their 3rd turn, 6th turn, 9th turn, and so on, the user will receive one large hint from the GM as to how to best get past whatever they are facing. Combat included. The hint will pertain specifically to the user who receives it.
Possessed - Passive: Levitation
At any time, you may fly at walking speed in any direction. You can also traverse to two points per turn on the map instead of just one should you so desire. Enemies within a map point you traverse can choose to intercept you if you do this with only a 1/4 chance of missing. Bosses automatically succeed on an intercept. Does not give any evasion bonuses.

Possessed - Active: Conjure Fire
Allows the user to manipulate fire to a limited extent. As a direct attack, it does 4 HP of damage. As a preparation attack, it will do 8 damage for two turns after a turn is spent charging it.
Possessed - Active: Conjure Ice
Allows the user to manipulate ice to a limited extent. As a direct attack, it does 4 HP of damage. As a preparation attack, it will do 6 damage for two turns after a turn is spent charging it and will halve the future damage dealt by the targeted player on their next turn.
Possessed - Active: Conjure Lightning
Allows the user to manipulate lightning to a limited extent. As a direct attack, it does 4 HP of damage. As a one-time preparation attack, it will do 6 damage for two turns after a turn is spent charging it and will disable a target's passive abilities on hit for their turn.
Possessed - Active: Mimic
If the user was hit by an attack on the opponent's turn, the user may use that exact same attack for the exact same effects and damage.
Possessed - Active: Shapeshift
Allows the user to assume any human form and also allows a 2x enchancement to out-of-combat stealth. In combat, the user can cast Shapeshift to become camouflaged as well, enforcing a d2 roll on the enemy's turn to see the user in order to attack them, although this won't work on most bosses. Shapeshift can be cancelled at any time without using up a turn, but after 2 d2 rolls have been made to see the user, the spell must be recast.
Possessed - Active: Telekinesis
Allows the user to use Telekinesis to forcibly blast any nearby opponents out of the way in the direction of the user's choosing. The targets are stunned for two turns after and have their passives disabled for those 2 turns, the user is stunned for 1 turn after. Can only be used 5 times per game. Can be used out of combat at any time without using 1 of the 5 uses.

Ritualist - Passive: Regeneration
During the start of every turn, the user will heal a little damage to gain back 2 HP. If their HP is 5 or lower, they will gain back 3 HP instead until they are over 5 HP again.
Ritualist - Passive: Revenant
Should the user ever perish, they can choose at any time to resurrect themselves with their 30 HP fully restored. This cannot be rendered null with the possessed's Conjure Lightning. Can only be used once per game.

Ritualist - Active: Dagger of Light
Deals 3 damage. Always hits the ritualist's desired target. If the targeted player was blinded last turn, this attack does 5 damage and heals 2 HP.
Ritualist - Active: Environmental Protection
The user is protected for the next 3 turns from any and all hazards originating from the environment including falling. (Doesn't protect the user from collapsing pocket universes.)
Ritualist - Active: Blind
The GM will flip a coin. If heads, the targeted player will be blinded and their next attack will do half damage. If tails, this attack does nothing.
Ritualist - Active: Sword of the Judge
Deals 4 damage and heals the user for 1 HP if the target's health is greater than the user's. Otherwise does nothing.
Ritualist - Active: Steel Will
The user becomes completely immune to actives for the next two turns and negative passives don't affect them during that time either. Can only be used 3 times per life.
Ritualist - Active: Repair
The user regenerates 14 HP, although they cannot act for this turn or next turn. Their Regeneration passive will also temporarily stop working for those 2 turns.

Hunter - Passive: Berserk
If the user falls to 5 HP or lower, their damage is automatically doubled for the rest of combat. The user's summoned wolf, if any, will also be enraged and enter Berserk as well. The wolf does not enter Berserk at all until the user does.
Hunter - Passive: Even the Odds
If the user is targeted with two or more attacks in a single turn, the user can execute two actives at once on their next turn instead of just one.

Hunter - Active: Heavy Slice
On a successful d2 roll, this attack does 8 damage. Otherwise, it does 4.
Hunter - Active: Dark Arrow
On a successful d2 roll, the user shoots an arrow that hits the target and does 2 damage for the current turn plus 4 extra poison damage for the turn after the next. Although the poison does not stack, the 4 damage every other turn is continuous until combat ends.
Hunter - Active: Melee
Hits the target for 5 damage.
Hunter - Active: Blood Magic
If the user's HP is 26 or above, they may wound themselves down to 10 HP and enter Berserk early. The blood magic also likewise doubles any poison damage done to enemies while the user is in this state.
Hunter - Active: Summon Wolf
The user summons a pet wolf on their turn with 10 HP that can either attack for 4 damage (50% chance to miss) or stun a target for a single turn (also 50% chance to miss). The wolf can be summoned and unsummoned as much as desired, but if it dies in combat, it can't be used again for the rest of the game.
Hunter - Active: Counterattack
The user ceases acting as they wait as long as the player desires for any attack. Once an attack is delivered against them, the attack has a 50% chance to be blocked completely and the attacker suffering 5 damage for their troubles. The waiting can be canceled at any time as a free action.
