Can you host a VPN on your VPS?

If you decide to go the gaming route, hosting a VPN (without acting as a gateway to the internet) for users to play LAN games and having a section dedicated to match-making could be a differential.

Albeit there are lots of "free" VPN services out there, so you could just focus on the match-making side.

I can technically host whatever the hell I want, as long as it runs on the OS. Having said that though, how much would a VPN service drag on performance? Also, what would make others want to use our service if there is a bunch of free VPN services out there?

Performance: no idea, but for gaming no or low crypto is probably best, so not as demanding as a VPN for privacy.

Current market: they seem to always be closing, so players are left to find a new one every few months; or there are limitations on the number of machines, which is okay for people playing against a few friends, but some games are better with more players.

It looks there is indeed demand for this, but we'd have to write our own client. And then write code for every game that we're gonna support... I don't have that expertise sadly.

I don't think so. If you wanted to cater to the kids crowd, maybe, but any adult should be smart enough to install everything and would only need the config file for the VPN.

Not sure where you got this idea from. Users would be the ones setting up their own servers, the VPN is just the network bridge between clients and servers.

Alright, no reason to be sad.

OK, it's pretty apparent that I know nothing about this. (;_; ) Where's a good place to get more information on this specifically?
