Cloudflare, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook. Yay or nay?

Hi, I stumbled across this place from a git and see you have some neat discussions and host some interesting files. Site is well-designed too! Was interested to see that you once were behind Cloudflare and have dropped it. That is pretty based.

What are people's thoughts on CAGEMAFIA, e.g. the big tech companies in the title plus Elon, IBM, Akamai.

Also is the community here much into linux?

I personally see CAGEMAFIA as the biggest problem facing humankind, but others probably care less about it, dunno. All the AI system they are trying to get us to input everything into to "check it" is supplied by these tech oligarchs, and so many other invasive infrastructures too like Cloudflare.

Anyway community here seems more switched on. If any are fighting the growing digital feudalism, and they are also into linux, maybe they will be interested in Digital Feudalism Counter Action (DFCA), a step-by-step firewall setup that blocks CAGEMAFIA and a couple other techno-feudal lords. My favorite part is it tells me when it blocks and which member of the tech cartel, with a little passing message. You can even set it up to tell you what program tried to connect, sooo useful.

See notabug.org/dfca/dfca

Basically it has totally transformed how I use the internet. I had to start using a fork of Firefox that removes telemetry because FF was trying to transmit WAY too frequently to Amazon, Cloudflare and Google. There was even a setting in Firefox that would try to transmit to Google whenever I toggled it on or off. It had NOTHING to do with Google. Can't remember the exact setting but it was a prominent one.... freaked me out.

If I really need to access a CAGEMAFIA site I just use Tor now, but I generally just avoid them. It can be a bit weird when all the search results are CAGEMAFIA, but that happened only once so far. And have been using it for weeks.

Have been using invidious for a long time so no issue there, don't even do video much.

So yeah, dunno, I wonder if the community here might like to put DFCA in the resources section?? I got the attached zip from above notabug.org/dfca/dfca

I'm definitely against Big Tech/GAFAM. I actively avoid most anything that has to do with google, but with the other I'm a tad, a smidgin, less strict, although I still prefer Alternatives when possible. I'm also into privacy, and cloudflare is anything but private. They also actively sabotage non-chromium browsers (and more): https://web.archive.org/web/2022061.../deCloudflare/src/branch/master/readme/en.md/

Even firefox is too google chromiumfied for me, and is actually anti-privacy, vanilla. I use Pale Moon, and eMatrix lets me block any and all elements and first & third parties on a site. Plus, it works with uBlock Origin (same creator).

Before I get into anything else, I need to be the bad guy here and warn you about advertising your own stuff. As per Sanctuary Deadly Sin #5, all advertisements must be approved by me. If you do it again, you will be banned. As to DFCA, I don't see any visible code on your notabug page, and when I do a search for this program, it seems like nobody has heard of you.

If you can show me readable code for everything in the repo, I'll let you keep the link and attachment here. Otherwise, they are going to be pulled. Please respond quickly.

Flattered. Not mine but heavily into the cause and open-source stuff, and think it's well presented, saw people talking about it on an I2P IRC channel and I thought I'd give it a test. Should probably go back there to say it worked on my Archlinux now that I think about it.

You almost had me embarrassed that a shared a bad link. Lol. The shell (bash) commands are in a text file, probably the one thing most people will hate about it. You sort of need to read through the way commands works and sometimes you need to choose the one for your linux. Someone should probably fix that. So yeah it's def not a one click thing but still its pretty easy.... if I can do it, lololol. In some ways its good to read through as you go, though. Lets just say I learned a lot.

See notabug.org/dfca/DFCA/src/main/DFCA_INSTALL_INSTRUCTIONS_0.2.0_%28extracted-for-convenience%29.txt

I guess it's up to you what you want to do. I can't PROVE I didn't make it. that would be pretty much impossible, but yeah, its open-source, libre if I remember, if you think its ok to put it on that Resources page for the community it will help linuxers.

cloudflare is anything but private. They also actively sabotage non-chromium browsers (and more)
Wouldn't surprise me at all, lol. Do you know how?

I miss ublock as a Tor browserer. It should just come with it.... Tor Project if you are listening? Please, PLEASE include ublock!!!

Well, kinda pressing X to doubt there, but I won't be a hardass about it. As to the source, yeah, looks like I was just looking in the wrong file. The repo does have a BCMA.xpi file though that isn't plain text. That makes me wary, and also, I didn't go through the entire bash file, but nevertheless, I'll leave it all up to the users and urge them to exercise a lot of caution.

Anyway, I'll move on.

I guess for me, to sum it all up, I concern myself with results, mostly. I'm brutally practical and focus on quality and reliability. For example, even though Microsoft was definitely a very proprietary company, I still found their products to be the best of the best (at the time). Nowadays though, they're total shit and I don't support them anymore. The same principle can be applied to social media companies. Unlike Microsoft though, it's easy to see the major negative impact they have made on the internet as a whole ever since their inception.

So, I try to avoid stuff from the big companies, but not purely out of principle but mostly because their stuff is either shit, spyware, or usually both.

I personally see CAGEMAFIA as the biggest problem facing humankind,
I think we, ourselves, are the biggest problem facing humankind. It is through our decisions as a population that has led to these terrible companies becoming so large. If we, as a population, really wanted to, we could reign in this crap in a heartbeat. But we won't. And they know that. So, the change shouldn't start with the companies. It should start with us, as cheesy as that might sound. I already made a topic on this very subject actually how we, as a country, deserve TikTok.

Anyway community here seems more switched on.
Well, I definitely try to encourage that. lol One of the big goals of Sanctuary is to get people to ask more questions. Questions not just about what they don't know, but also, what they think they know. And yeah, sometimes, those questions don't lead anywhere, but they still need to be asked and there needs to be a good place to ask them.
