It's definitely in the style of John Hughes, but also not quite the same. Specifically, the humor hits kinda different. I wouldn't say it's any better or worse, or even that it majorly diverges, but regardless, it's still great. I don't know if this movie does the best at presenting itself though. Thankfully, it doesn't take long at all to get to the good stuff. Many of the animated parts I find to be a notable issue with the movie save perhaps the cafeteria one. I find most of them just simply aren't very well done at all and clash with the rest of the movie on top of that, but I dunno.
A typical 80s high school comedy about a teenager going through some angst after he's dumped by a really trashy looking blonde. Your mileage may vary, and there's hardly a lot of them in the movie anyway. Usually, this movie is overlooked in favor of the John Hughes collection, but you'd be doing yourself a major disservice if you skip this straight 80s cult classic. I mean, it's got an absolutely pimp 1967 Camaro with Diane Franklin in it. What more do you want? Check it out.
