I want another community game day. Any takers for Sept 15th?
« on: September 08, 2018, 05:39:40 PM »
So yeah, next Saturday.  I can't do Sunday this next week because some family is coming in town, but it's been a few months, and I've been wanting to do it for a while now.  Let me know your availability and we will try to work something out!

I'm available.

If we do a Halo Online thing, lets have a bigger map please?
And possibly a pass-worded server. Since I couldn't in get last time.

Halo is OK, but you know me and mainstream games.  There's so many games out there, and it's too easy to gravitate towards the ones literally everyone and their mom has played.  I felt Screencheat was a pretty big success, given how well a no-name game like it got as much praise as it did that day.  I wanna find the next Screencheet for everyone if anyone else is on board for trying something unheard of.

Still, Halo is a good fallback if not a first option.

I can do late Fridays or late Saturdays, but just not next weekend

And I like unheard of games.

I'm going to be in the discord tomorrow.  I dont think much is going on, so I'll be in around 3pmPST if nothing gets in my way.  5pm seemed to work well before, so dont feel any pressure to show up before 5, but I'll plan on being around if anyone does.

You know, I'm getting on a path of exile kick.  Anyone interested should download it since its f2p.  We dont have to make it our game tomorrow, but it's an idea that wont cost us anything.

Post event action report:

Arnox, Guillion, Vendor-Lazarus and I all showed up at the event.

First, Arnox hosted a game of Unreal Tournament 99, where she kicked our asses consistently, but Gullion managed to squeeze out a strong win one match

Arnox retired for the night, leaving the remaining 3 of us to start a game of Terraria I'm hosting.  Gullion had never played it, so I was helping him learn the ropes while Vendor went exploring for us.

After Gullion had to leave for a holiday celebration, Vendor and I figured out how to host a game of Factorio with our mismatched versions, and we played until 11:30PST.

It was a great night.  Thanks everyone.

It was an eventful time indeed.

Next time we play any FPS game, I low-key insist on bigger maps. ,)
How about Quake III? or CoD:UO? Or AvP1/2? or Deus Ex1/IW? ...or Battlefield 2?

Both Terraria and Factorio require some initial setup and experience before it gets going, but it is well worth the investment.
Hope to see you there again Guilion!

And thanks to Signa for herding us Cats this time around. ,)

DM-Liandri and DM-Deck16 were the perfect size. What do you mean? Any bigger and we'd be searching for each other way too long.

Quake 3 is almost completely redundant to UT99 in my arrogant opinion. I wouldn't mind Call of Duty at all. Though I wonder how many people have that. I know I don't have United Offensive. I have the first two Black Ops' and the first two Modern Warfares. AvP2 would be really fun but I'd have to find a download source for that game. It's not sold digitally anywhere or else I would have had that in my collection a long time ago. Deus Ex 1 doesn't have MP that I know of. I don't know what IW is. Battlefield 2 would be amazing but that's just way too big for the number of people we have right now sadly.

The first map (deck16) in UT99 was somewhat okay, but the second one was downright horrible!
Tiny cramped corridors leading only to an open dead-center dead-spot...making you dead.
I'm not some bro-dude who needs instant action nor have I got an advantage in learned muscle memory reflexes.
What would be wrong with some strategic thinking and long-term planning, despite it taking a whole 30seconds extra?

I find Quake 3 to be much better than UT. The game handles input better and responds much more intuitively.
The weapons are also more balanced and the maps slightly bigger.
When it comes to CoD, I hate the modern Pray-and-spray attitude and prefer bolt-action rifles that take skill instead.
Since it is the first ever CoD, though an expansion, there must exist a copy of it somewhere. I have it on CD.
AvP2 would indeed be fun. I have both 1 and 2 as CD's and digital backup.
Deus Ex 1 got multiplayer patched into it later, and it's rarely mentioned sequel Invisible War had it from the start I think. I have both on CD.
I don't really remember Battlefield 2 all that well.

Still, all of these were just examples. We really should discuss what genres we favor, what we usually play, what we could play, and what we wont touch with a ten-foot-pole. ,)
