My Problem with Progressives
« on: September 06, 2018, 07:25:43 PM »
I've gone back and forth on writing this for literally Months now. So, full disclosure, this might end up being a rather unfocused Rant. Or maybe it won't.

I don't like Progressives. For Context, this is what others may call a SJW in my opinion.
I never did like them, you know, even before the all the kerfuffles that have come and gone over the last roughly 6 years.

Progressives are unreasonible, hypocritical, naive and often times massively lack social skills and a basic understanding of other people. This is obviously all rather ironic considering the amount of campaigning they do in the name of others. They can't manage to uphold their own often times idiotic standards, they are more concerned with hurt feelings (and often times the hurt feelings of entirely hypothetical people) then the curtailment of speech, hell many of them are actively pushing for censorship in blissful ignorance that it.not.only can, but WILL inevitibly bite them in the ass.  How many of them lack a functioning idea of WHY Racism, Sexism or the various Phobias are wrong?

So obviously, having said such things, I must of course be some kind of  alt-right-nazi-trump-supporter-troll, right? Nah, I'm a pretty bog standard liberal.that doean't find himself disagreeing with these people over the overall goals presented...but really because they are shitty people with moronic ideas on how to reach said goals. If you let them talk long enough, I find that inevitibly their solutions always require some kind of faschist regime or magical thinking. I mean, on The Escapist they are complaining about messages in a game that are apparently made of pre-selected words, yet they fail to see the impossibility of having both communication between players and said communication always being to their liking. At the same time, many of those same people wouldn't see any issue with immediantly metaphorically shitting on the corpse of someone they didn't like.

Fuck all of them, if I could shoot them into the Sun, I would.

I REALLY don't like these shitty People.

Well, one comfort I can offer is that these people are nearly not as common as the internet would have you believe. Most people are actually pretty reasonable,

I couldn't agree more with you. The only thing I might possibly object to is firing them into the sun.
Despite the obvious hyperbole, I don't advocate violence except in extreme cases.
I would want for the majority (of people) to be swayed by reason and logic instead of emotion, and thereby relegate these radicals to the outermost fringes.
I too hate those trying to restrict others with fascist and authoritarian means.
They have many many names and not only do they continue to twist words in their favor,  but remain difficult to raise awareness of due to being hard to pin down.
I prefer calling them Ctrl-left. Others use Nu-left, Globalists, Leftists, even Liberals!, SJW's, Marxists, Trotskyists, ((())), LGBTQ+, etc etc.
The only certain thing is that they vehemently call their enemies Nazis and bigots. Watering down the actual meaning of the terms sexist, racist.

Well, one comfort I can offer is that these people are nearly not as common as the internet would have you believe. Most people are actually pretty reasonable,

The thing I always say about the social justice warriors is the same thing I always say about engineers:

They know a lot about how things SHOULD work, but nothing about how things DO work

That is one of the best descriptions I have ever read!

There is a lot to be said, and much of it would just be reiterating what has been said a thousand times, but in a nutshell, Progressives have no balance.  They want things to progress for progress's sake.  Someone always is lagging behind, so they need propping up! Right?  Well who is the most oppressed?  How about pedophiles, no one likes those guys.  Let's try to get people to like pedos like we got them all to like the gays and trans!  What could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, well, good luck with that.  Fact is, they aren't wrong enough, and pedos are oppressed, but they never look close enough to figure out why they are oppressed, and if there are any possible solutions for that.  There aren't any.  If there is one, I'd like to hear it.  South Park put it succinctly when the NAMBLA guy was giving his freedom speech and all Stan could say is "dude, you have sex with children!"  But the progressives dont care.  They want to make sure there is no taboo that can't be crossed, because people that cross taboos get oppressed by society.

I'm not a big fan of generalizations. It makes it too easy to strawman. I'd much rather consider a specific example and then explain why this or that is unfavorable.

Stop me if you've heard this one before...

"I just wanted to play video games."

Because you know what? That is, in actual fact, all I wanted to do.

Really, what I find unendingly tiresome about so-called "progressives" is their unyielding determination to bring their politics into every single conversation they ever engage in, particularly when coupled with their perpetual assumption that disagreement, or even  mere apathy towards said politics is definite and irrefutable proof of active and wilful opposition, which in turn, of course, irrefutably outs one as a thoroughly reprehensible human being.

I don't think you can really strawman a personality type.

Oh man, I can't stand this shit

For the longest time it seemed that only "progressives" did this but as the 2016 election cycle went on, I started hearing plenty of people from both sides doing it

For the last year or so though, nobody has talked to me about politics. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm assuming this is because, to the average person stuck in the "left vs right" mentality, I probably look look like I'm all over the place. One day I'm saying Trump is doing great, the next I'm calling his decisions utterly ridiculous (mostly foreign policy decisions. Whoever he's trusting for that is an idiot)

Far too many people pick a side and toe the party line.

Don't know where I was going with that, but, there it is.

The engineers might.  The SJWs don't know the difference between their butt and a burnt biscuit.
