Discord Launches Their Own Online Game Store

Yay! Steam will finally have to get off its ass and compete. :whee:

What's really interesting here too is that they've somehow made it to where you can link a game to the Discord client and then you won't have to launch the client that you bought the game from. So say you bought Overwatch, you could link it to the Discord client and just play it through that. That would be AMAZING. I'd be all over that. See that, EA/Ubisoft/Activision? THIS is how you fucking compete.

In regards to EA/Ubisoft/Activision, it is their shortsighted greed that prevents them competing. All the care about is getting maximum money in minimum time, which causes any attempt by them to fail. People should only buy their games, so why should offer their competition's (in this case, everyone else) games.

And actually forcing steam to compete is a great thing, so I wish discord the best of luck.

I doubt it'll actually be any competition that Steam needs to worry about, especially since Steam is currently trying to become Discord with it's revamped chat.

And discords also going to have to compete with origin and GoG. I wish them the best of luck but i doubt they'll be much competition for steam. Maybe indies will switch  since I've heard steams not as good for indies now than it now used to be, but i doubt most AAA companies will switch, if anything they'll try establish their own services, much like bethesdas going to try with fallout 76

Heh, Origin. If Origin still hasn't tried to compete with Steam, I doubt they'll bother with Discord. Again though, Discord's ability to bypass launching clients to play their respective games is a very attractive feature, so I wouldn't turn your nose up on it just yet.

That is a convenient feature, but i can already add most of my non-steam games as shortcuts in the steam library aside from diablo 3 and overwatch (technically you can but they just launch the battle.net launcher not the games themselves). I'll keep an eye on it, but for the time being i don't see it being much competition. With that being said if they allow hentai/dating sims/visual novels to launch uncensored and not make me deal with 18+ patches, it'll defiantly be of interest for me.
