In light of the recent Corona Virus fiasco, I've heard it said many many times that jobs should also allow employees to just not show up to work, but this would be awful. Like it or not, in order for this country to run, people need to work. You may want time off but what about the transportation industry? Power? Food? People need to keep working in order for those things to be supplied. It's weird that nobody really recognizes this.

I wouldn't want it to stop. What I really am hoping for though is that this could lead to some restructuring that I'd like to see. With modern capabilities, large parts of the Workforce don't really need to go anywhere to do most of their wwork. We have the Tech to decentralize organisatorial work, so unless you must be dealing with something physical, you can work from at home. For the cases in which physical meetings need to take place, you simply rent the space and time, or maybe you do a time share model with other companies. Think about the potential increase in living space and the decrease in traffic congestion when so fewer people need to travel to work. I also imagine that the saving would allow for more handsome compensation for those that do need to leave the house.
