This thread, if made, would be stickied in the Ourselves sub-forum. HOWEVER, know that if it gets implemented, the chatbox will probably be disabled due to redundancy.

One may take post activity away from the other though, leaving two options that are now equally slow. We also want people to post threads here. If they're posting everything in the chat thread and then the shoutbox for everything else, the forum will probably also struggle for activity. Best to just have one or the other as I see it.

Hard choice if it's to be a Chat OR Thread situation.

I like the chat because it allows for near-instant communication with people, no page refreshing, great for quick replies and you can keep an eye on the conversation while you are writing a message.
Down side to the chat is that it doesn't have a history, so things said half an hour ago could be lost to the ether ( what part is shown in the chat box anyways ).

I like the idea of a thread because you can communicate in it at your own pace and you can read back pretty much all of it. Down side of a thread is, if it's really active, you'll be doing a lot of page refreshing and you have no overview of things being said when you yourself are writing a post.

The good thing about the chat-box is that it is there. Front and center. Live.
Downside is of course the no-history.

If I had to decide...I'll take the chat-box.
Good enough for in the now and casual talk without needing the discussion value of a thread.

Thanks for thinking about the users and what could be done better though! ^^

I CAN increase the shown chat history actually. It may take longer to load the chatbox though due to this, but then again, it still definitely shouldn't be that long at all I suppose.

EDIT: Shown chat history increased to 50.

I kinda hate the chatbox, actually. It becomes an excuse to not post a thread, and is only useful if you're trying to have a one-on-one with two people online. Since we have the Discord for that, I don't see a need for it here.

I also avoid jumping into others' conversations unless I have something I feel is important to add. With forum posts, I can throw my opinion/statement out without regard to a conversation flow and not have it unwelcome. It's harder to interject in a chatbox.
