Oh, when I was browsing that site, I wondered where those forums were.

These days, I don't play many video games, so general discussion and politics is all I can contribute.

If the site is quite active though I can understand. Why would they let any unknown newbie who just joined the site into a politics forum? Which usually has a high chance to turn into a shit fest when you let any random guy in who's just looking to troll and flame. Of course nothing stops them from posting their political manifesto in the "JRPG weeaboo discussion" forum if they are brave enough.

Politics sub-forums are always crazy though unless you're very puritan about who you let in. But then, if you wanted an echo chamber, you can get one for much less hassle by standing alone in your room and repeating all your political viewpoints to yourself.

Why what happened at Mugen Archive? (Sounds familiar but I can't remember.)
They are too power hungry, they treat their userbase like garbage. Try to download any mugen char in that website. Not only they require you to have a account, they also wants you to post in that forum. They also loves to ban people over the most trivial thing.

So it basically turned into what most forum sites that have been around for years inevitably turn into: a gated community with xenophobic members trying to keep everyone new away for any possible reason.

Why don't they just close registration and be done with it? lol

The duality of man, these people likely know they need new members in order to survive and thrive but at the same time they don't want to deal with them because they are set in their ways and have a very close knit group they don't want to let anyone else into. The result is basically allowing people to signup but getting rid of them at the very minor perceived inconvenience as a sort of twisted balance, they are just assholes that got stuck in time and can't move forward.

By the way, I imagine someone's either going to kiss ass to get unlimited download privileges and then turn around and download the entire archive to rehost somewhere else, or just plain old use a vB 4.x exploit to bypass security and access the archive that way.

You can find alot of mugen stuff in archive.org, plus there are other mugen sites that treat the userbase better than mugen archive
