What keeps you awake at night?

So as I type this, I am trying to sleep but I am unable to because I don't know enough, I want to read some interesting books I found but some are in Italian and others in Japanese and I don't know those languages, it's annoying it's like I crave the knowledge and I'm unable to reach it, but oddly enough if I could I would still be awake because I would be able to read them and I would be doing so.

Today is that, other days I simply want to play a game or watch a movie, other times I am lost in thought about the evils of the world or simple philosophy, to be honest sleeping sucks, I wish I didn't need to sleep then I would have more time to read, watch, play, learn.

So anyway, what keeps you awake?

In all seriousness though, if i'm kept awake at night it's usually because my brain feels the need to make me relive a bad memory or two every hour or so and it continues on into the night.

For example, I'll almost be asleep and then I'll remember some fucked up thing that I did or had done to me and I'll start trying to justify it to myself or think of reasons it doesn't matter anymore, etc and next thing I know I'm awake again

Either that or its too bright or too hot or something (I work night shift)

I have a love/hate relationship with sleep. Love because it passes time quickly and is of course very relaxing. Hate because it wastes sooo much time.

As to what keeps me awake, most of the time I have no idea. Probably because I already got enough sleep from a nap before or something.

Soooo many things.

I've always been a night-owl without an effective circadian rhythm and a waking cycle longer than usual.
So my days tends to turn into nights and then back again.

Firsly, The "Just watching another episode of a show", or "playing another session/turn of a game" keeps me from getting to bed. When in bed and actually trying to sleep though, it used to be negative thoughts and regrets that kept me awake. I tried all manner of things and nothing really worked. If my waking cycle is bad enough, and I have an important time to keep the next day, I usually just stay awake throughout it all.
What I found that finally seems to work adequately...is reading a book until my eyes close themselves, then uh..well..
This is going to be hard to explain..but I position a part of myself "correctly", then think ..exciting thoughts..and start to envision a scenario playing out in full detail. I always fall asleep before finishing the scenario.

My brain is so often abuzz with noise I can't even say there's thoughts in there that can be translated to words. Most recently it's been taking the form of a song stuck in my head. It like having the radio in in the next room and it keeps you awake when you just want quiet. I'm very often getting full second winds around bed time, and they usually dont stop until after 2am if I'm letting it go it's course. My alarm is set for 6am so it's not an option to indulge during the week.

Yeah, jerking it shuts it off long enough to fall asleep too.

That's just it. I'm not. It's just using the imagination.
That isn't to say i don't get a reaction despite being hands-off.

This way, I get to sleep, and even waking up with the usual morning wood (caused by the suppressed urination reflex) I can pee without painting the bathroom yellow.
(I've NEVER understood the widespread movie/stereotype of jerking it in the morning. It's the absolute worst time for several reasons!)
