Since this got posted in the wrong board, I'll start with an edit of my post. Say anything that's going on in your life to piss you off. Anything counts, even a bug fix in a game that you're playing that you were exploiting to make the game better. You may offer suggestions to other posters, but try not to jump on anyone for posting something you don't think is a big deal. Deal?

You know what grinds my gears this week? Getting text messages from my landlord wondering when I'm getting back from vacation after I made sure to pay rent a week early so I wouldn't have to hear from her.

You know what pisses me off? Getting another text the next day saying that the door locks are now changed. The only reason to change the locks is because two roommates moved out, both to Texas, and one of them was her son. So now I'm not sure if I'm going to get into my own house after my vacation is done.

You know what pisses me off? Trying to have a pokemon battle but my opponent gets a critical hit every three moves while I get none, thus decimating my clearly superior team

Oh, you meant that type of venting.

I hate it when people can't be bothered to see if an event is still going ahead, so they don't show up. My sister actually assumes things are cancelled if she isn't called the day they are happening. You can tell her about something 5 times a week before, but if you don't let her know about an hour beforehand, she doesn't think its going ahead. This leads to all of us waiting around, wondering where she is.

I'm pretty chill at the moment but let me try.

It pisses me off when something dramatic happens in the story and a player makes a tough choice that goes against the character's morals but fits in with their bonds, traits and flaws and the DM say your alignment is now XX.

NO IT ISN'T, that isn't the DM's call to make, it's the player's choice, they are the one that is playing the character and knows how that will psychologically affect their character, and it especially pisses me off when the player is role-playing the consequences quite well and the DM tells him that's not how the character would react, I mean seriously that's the player's call.

There's actually an ongoing debate about how alignment should be used. Some say it's merely an identifier and nothing more. Others say you shouldn't be able to veer out of your chosen alignment. Yet others say you can but you need to shift alignments as needed. Ultimately it's up to the DM and the players, but my view is, the DM is ultimately there to entertain the players, and not the other way around. So in this case, I agree with you.

Yep, I'm actually very much in the anti-alignment camp of that discussion, in fact, I've called alignments the worst thing to ever happen to RPGs, it's just that while I get what they were going for thematically with the cosmic struggle between good vs evil and wanting a mechanic representation of that, it's simply impossible to bring the philosophic principles of morality to mechanics when they aren't even clear in real life and I think it's just downright silly to try to interpret that as mechanics.

I mean I have had tons of discussions where I and the person I was discussing with disagreed completely on what made a good person and what made a bad person, and the truth is neither of us was wrong since good and evil are abstract concepts, to begin with and to me that just makes the thing basically an insult, because what to me is Neutral Good might be Chaotic Neutral to you and that's perfectly fine, it's a matter of perspective after all but because of that alignments should never be taken seriously.

I think there are accurate definitions for good and bad, but it's very understandable that most people don't know them. A good action is an action that benefits someone other than you. Now where it gets tricky is sometimes, a good action can actually be a detriment to a group while still being a good action because the benefit outweighs the negative consequences of it as well. The thing is though, there is no black and white view here. It's a sliding scale of good and bad. The most evil actions harm the most people while benefiting the least amount of people, if at all.

Oh. My. God. This week just keeps getting worse and worse. I got home, but had to wait until 930pm for my roommate to get home so I could get inside. Once inside, I found the den that I was using to store my stuff, things like my console game collections and dvds, had a new lock installed on the door. I couldn't even begin packing some of my things! Thankfully, a shoulder bash on the door popped it open because they installed the new knob wrong, but as I was getting things into my car, a bug flew into my ear and wouldn't get out!

I had to wake my roommate so he could help dump water and peroxide into my ear, but the bug didn't come out. We ended up going to the ER at midnight to get it flushed out.

Fast forward to the next morning, and I start noticing several things of mine are just gone. Landlady entitled herself to them, just as she had been caught taking my roommates potatoes, because she wanted to plant them. I estimate about $100 of stuff I bought just up and left while I was in vacation. Most of it I had donated to the house for general use, but it wasn't meant to be removed.

Thankfully, work as been understanding and I'm working my ass off these two days so I can get the fuck out of here.

Holy shit. Landlords like this give landlords like me a bad name. Why do they do this? Is there small power trip cause them to become such assholes? I don't know what the laws are where you live, but you have to give a tenant 24 hours notice before entering, or you're breaking the law. Just because it is "on your property" doesn't give a person the right to break into the apartment or to go through other people's stuff.

What makes matters worse is she's the mother of a long-time friend. We've known eachother since high school, so roughly half of my life. I ended up yelling at her, but I don't want to take legal action against her because of our history.

Edit: in her defence, she is doing an amazing job cleaning up the place to make it ready for new people to move in. The problem is her methods and how no one is going to know a damn thing about the new tenants. They could be thieves too. I've been very content here for 7.5 years, so this is all shaking me up.

Nine P.M. on a Tuesday, what better time to rant about the Sims 4 as an adult?

This motherfucking game has been out for almost four years and what have we actually gotten? Jack shit. More pointless stuff packs than ever before and lacking "game packs" that add a teeny bit of content. Then the real kick in the sack of expansion packs that cost forty USD and barely offer anything besides like two. Worlds suck, with like ten places total in the largest of them, zero customization of them, and nothing interesting to do in them.

Even the normally amazing modding community has given up on this game. The two most supported mods is an easy cheat mod and a hardcore sex mod that includes teen sex/pregnancy, incest, and menstrual cycles for female sims. Can't build your own world, but you can jerk it to sims fucking.

The real problem, it's easily the smoothest and best looking Sims game I've played. The base mechanics are solid, but they've done nothing but add vampires, weather, pets, and other frivolous shit since launch.

Moving into the new place has been going well. I got most of my furniture in place, but I still don't have my pc set up. I also have a pinched nerve in my back that has been manageable but is really starting to cause me some real issues. I ended up with about 4 hours sleep last night, and I have to work Saturday. Woot. On the plus side, I'll be able to make up some of my lost time.

Sims 4 seems to have been at one point a always online kind of Game. Then EA fucked up SimCity and developement was too far along to scrap large portions of the Game, so they had to work around the mechanics they had built for a MP oriented game. Sims players are already prone to buying the same thing 5 times (call me crazy, but after a expansion offers a wildly popular upgrade such as Pets, I'd think that should be part of the Base Game in a Sequel), so they have been able to get away with it.

My Theory at least.

So the move is still greatly affecting me. I have a pinched nerve in my back, and it's making it impossible to sleep. I got less than 3 hours last night, and only was saved by taking a late nap.

I'm still in really good spirits though. My new roommates are so easy to get along with.

Went to the doctor today. Got some meds, but the pharmacy didn't get the order forever! I had to walk around the store in pain waiting for them to finish dumping pills into a bottle for me. At least I found a refreezeable ice pack to buy.

Well, I got a very petty gripe right now.

So, I've been forced back to playing WoW by my cousin (who wants us to hang out more but we are both too busy to do it IRL). I was like sure, whatever. We had the pre-patch day yesterday for the next expansion, so that's good. So I go to update the mods I use to make the games UI not the biggest asspile ever. I manage to update all of them except for one. This one, however is like one of the two most important ones. So I can't play the game without it looking like complete ass. I could try and get used to a new mod, but people donate money to the modder, so I figure he should do what he said he would do and get the mod out on time. All the other major WoW modders managed it. But no, he is just a slow asshole, taking people's money and getting back to them when he feels like it. What a jackass.

Grrr. I have too many things I desperately want to buy, but it means not saving anything this month. I bought a ton of HDDs for a new server, and I still haven't bought the computer to put them in. I had to pay rent on two places this month because of my retarded landlord, and within a month, the GTX1170s will be launching, and I've been waiting years for this upgrade, since the 1100 series was my target generation.

Top it all off with my back issues causing my leg to cramp up and not being able to sleep properly.

I’m being gang stalked and in the last 6 months lost: my company I spent a decade building, my freedom ( been to jail 6 times in 4 months), my kids which is number one on my list, currently getting my house ready to sale since I had to take an investor in so I didn’t lose it too, probably 30,000 usd worth of tools and equipment, my “friends”, my old lady, my email account and Facebook page I’ve had for 15 years, and my privacy…….almost my asshole virginity…..fml but I’m smiling because I’m breathing and it’s a beautiful day……oh and my antique hand tools that I’ve acquired over a 25 year period and used daily.

Remember to consider some self-reflection as well. You need to be completely truthful with yourself when you do so. Not too harsh, and not too soft. And perhaps most importantly, learn from your mistakes and always strive to become a better person. Don't just think about your mistakes and not do anything about them. That is of no use to anyone, including yourself.

I find it frustrating when my co-workers review my work and decide that it re-doing it in their preferred way would be better.
If they had told me what they wanted before I started, I wouldn't have had to do it twice.
If there were some clear, written-down, guidelines that I could follow, I wouldn't have had to do it twice.

But no, I have no idea what their standards are, or what they want. I don't know what they see as better or what they think is worse.

I know that, every time, my solution works. But that's merely a secondary concern to them. They just the code to look "clean".

How dare I write

Code:
for(var i=0; i++; i<arr.length){
...
}
Instead, I should write:

Code:
forEach(const item of arr){
...
}
Why? Because the latter is more readable?
No, because everybody knows how to read a "classical" for loop, because that's what everyone should have been taught to read and write.

This cool new forEach syntax may not even exist in other languages. I certainly had to learn it at one point, because I'm not even sure it existed when I first started out. So, guess what, if we get someone fresh out of college or someone experienced, yet coming from, say, c++, they'll have to learn this fancy new way all over again. If it were the "classic" loop, everybody would be able to take one look at that and say "I get it".

And these are the same co-workers who wanted to push us to use a hot new programming language that NOBODY KNEW. Why? Because it's negligibly faster.

Our customers don't care about how fast our code is, they just want the product to work. Our code isn't even the performance bottleneck! The 3rd party service is!

Anyway, we had to hire a new guy to do it because too few of us knew how.

So he comes in and does the work, great success! Except few people know how to read and maintain this new code.
Oops! The new guy gets fired (once he stops working directly under me and starts working directly under those other co-workers)
Oops! Now nobody can upgrade the project he was working on because nobody knows how!

So I re-do the whole thing in the good-old language we all know, and even if I get hit by a bus, any other developer can jump in and continue where I left off. See what blindly chasing the hot new trend gets you?
