This sounds like it would've been great, just a shame that they had to cancel it. Also unsurprising they seem to miss the point about why people were mad about yasuke.
It wasn't because he was black (mostly), but because they made him into a more significant figure than he ever actually was, and tried rewriting history to justify it. And also you put him in a place he didn't belong.
People never had an issue with the black guy in Black Flag, or his spinoff, Freedom Cry.
A black assassin set during the civil war is the perfect time period for one.

It's a pretty intriguing setting, but let's be honest here. Ubisoft would find some way to fuck it up big time.

I don't get why they can't just take artistic license and slap "based on true events" but then just be AC and just be fiction.

I agree. It fits better then AC Shadows. I haven't played the game but of all the stories to focus on, Yasuke is a pretty weird choice since there are more impactful stories that feature a Japanese protagonist.

I don't really give a shit what some black guy did in Japan. A black Assassin in the civil war? Plenty of rich material I could get behind there. Their loss.

Speaking of, AC: Shadows just had an Attack on Titan crossover.

Realism!
Seems like they are trying to draw minority and anime crowds.

Think, even though there are intelligent people and groups in these demographics, in modern day a large population will swarm to anything if the product sticks their neck out to praise them, or fanservice them. Even if there's no relation to the tie in, it makes no sense to the source material, they'll still buy it.

It's smart money wise but for actual invested fans and anyone who will play an older game for its story, this route will only work in the short term.

Because this broken society will eventually wise up and making shit just to attract an audience rather than sell a good story/game will be more offensive than not being purposefully inclusive today.
