TIL, Google Does OCR to Images and Indexes the Text it Finds

I have recurrent programmatic searches for my aliases in multiple search engines, one of them being Google.
Today I got a result for a 6 months old page that has a screenshot of a message I made.
My aliases is not mentioned in text anywhere in the page, only in the screenshot.
So I am guessing Google now does OCR of every image it finds and includes the found text in the index of the respective page.
Searching I found some news from a month ago about Google now doing OCR on the Photos app, guess they are rolling it out widely.

The technology itself could be used for good, like scanning whole books about to the lost to the ravages of time.
The scary thing is what google is doing.
