I mean, I knew sort of what I was getting into when I watched this movie. I was expecting good action, heavy violence, and western-style justice. And while it delivers on the justice part, the violence actually isn't super heavy and the action being good is uh... I guess? I wasn't particularly impressed with it one way or another. And this movie also comes with a load of plot holes as well. What I was hoping for was a sort of fun Max-Payne-esque romp through the city, delivering equal parts explosive action, witty cynicism, and second-hand catharsis, but ultimately, this movie just doesn't deliver very well on that at all.
Which is funny too because The Punisher has been the poster boy for edgy revenge and street justice for the LONGEST time. Even to this very day, you'll see that signature skull on the internet profiles of rednecks and dumb teenagers everywhere. This movie though just does not deserve that notoriety in my opinion. I have seen far better revenge flicks than this. This movie may not actually be awful or anything, but edgy teenagers should still probably look elsewhere for their next super kewl avatar.
(By the way, fun fact. In the movie screenshot below, the pistol in his right hand is jammed.)
