- The screen kind of desktop, not the actual machine. Although you definitely can post pictures of your own setup here as well.
- Be sure to post all pictures in a spoiler for convenience.
- Use a permanent image uploading service such as imgur. Let's not fill this thread full of broken image links.
- Don't worry about resizing. The site automatically resizes all images posted to be within 800x800.

I'll start.

Oh shit, it's Freelancer.

But yeah, I like clean orderly spaces. It also allows me to easily use text files on the desktop as post-it notes as well as just being a easy-to-access clean workspace for when I'm editing some code or going through some files or etc.

Hmm, no nested quotes I see now.

Yeah, Freelancer is among my absolute top favorite games. Replay it several times a year.

I keep my random notes in that 'random.txt' notepad you see. Then organize it into separate notepads later.
I've made use of windows sticky notes to keep tabs on release dates and things that keep coming up or is worth being reminded about.

I forgot to post my specs, so here they are:
Intel Core i7-3770 (4 CPUs @ ~3.4GHz)
NVidia GeForce GTX 670 (Running two screens at 1920x1080 & 1280x1024)
8 GB DDR3 RAM
1 TB HDD dedicated to Windows 8 x64
6 TB HDD for various misc. (2+2+2)

Don't know why Imgur decided to recode my .png image to .jpg and compress it to look like crap, but here it is;

Recently did a fresh install, so my desktop is still rather clean. It always starts clean, but clutters up pretty quickly as I have a tendency to use the Desktop as an easy access area for small pictures or text documents.

And here are some specs for y'all to bully me with ;D
AMD Athlon II X2 215 2.70GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 7025/ NVIDIA nForce 630a
4GB DDR3 RAM
1 TB HDD
Windows 10 Professional x64

You're actually brave enough to run a computer these days with only 4 GBs of RAM?

Aye, I like living on the edge!

I don't really do many taxing tasks on it, the most I'll have running concurrently is a web browser, a document editor and an old copy of Photoshop, so I get by just fine for the most part.

Even modern web browsers though these days eat up RAM like crazy. Firefox alone here is taking up 1 GB with 4 tabs, and that's low. Not including the amount it would take with a video playing and what 10 has to take up just sitting idle.

1GB memory for only 4 tabs??
Either something is wrong on your end..or they've seriously gimped FF since I last used it.
Pale Moon, which is a fork of an earlier FF version, only uses 250mb for 6 tabs.

If that's all PM uses, then you'd probably explode if you saw how much Chrome eats up.

Although were those bought before the gfx card dark days or after?
Before. Both at once.

I actually had a little buyers remorse back then, thinking I should've waited till the prices dropped. Funny how that turned out.

Thankfully prices are going back down, so it looks like the chaos is over.

Yes, had a look a prices last night and it seems like they're normalising as the current mining craze dies down (although a new one might come at a later time).

I can imagine we'll be seeing a flood of cheap secondhand GPUs too, but that's a definite 'buyers beware'.

I actually saw both a video and an article that debunked the myth that hardware slows down with time and/or use. I mean, it DOES, but it's not the hardware. It's actually overheating because the fan(s) is dying and the hardware is scaling back the performance to make sure the hardware doesn't break. So I guess if you buy a used really slow gfx card and are able to just replace the fan, you're good to go.

Mostly true, but I was more talking about the longterm reliability of such secondhand GPUs. Many miners overclocked their hardware and had them running full blast 24/7. Running at peak performance constantly over extended periods of time is generally not very beneficial for hardware longevity.

I say if you can get it at a cheap enough price though, it's more than worth it.

I've never been one for aesthetics.

Give it 245 days and it will be this computer's turn for maintenance (Maintenance of course, involves a full and complete purge of both hard drives with the windows license being de-activated and re-activated after low-level formatting). As such I usually don't customize computers a whole lot, this one having a wallpaper is nothing short of a miracle I tell you.

It's a bit late for me to look up all the specs on my rather dated state of the art computer from 2014, but it was an i7 extreme with 16GB quad channel RAM, and dual GTX760s. It's been serving me well, but its due for a video card upgrade. I'm not willing to drop the money on a GPU that's only 2 gens newer, so I'm waiting for the GTX1170s to be a thing.
The rest of the PC will last me 8 years, as I decreed in 2014. So far, only Doom2016 is making me feel like I'm missing something, and that's because the 760s don't support Vulkan properly.

The problem though is, which members will be interested? Also, Freelancer servers are pretty much mini-MMO worlds. Even if we had 10 people interested, that's probably not nearly enough to justify playing it multiplayer.

Also post your screen desktop so I can judge you.

I would have to agree with Arnox. Freelancer is like a mini-mmo. It needs way more people to play it at the same time.
I'm also not much into multiplayer..don't play all that well with other people, heh.
I like to do my own thing, but if there was a lot of players, and some online acquaintances asked me to help out or do some missions or some such, I would.

Thanks anyway. It IS a great game, and holds up well even after all this time. Modders help with that as well.
I would love for there to be a Freelancer 2. With modding built in, and the same personal server setup.
No other Space-sim lets you really control your ship in third person static chase cam. Freelancer had all the cams, for everyones tastes. That's service.
