Sorry, I know there's been a lot of firearm topics lately. I guess I'm making up for lost time. lol

Was looking around for the best way to protect firearm steel from rust, whether it be a pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, or whatever. Common wisdom says to use either Break Free CLP or Ballistol. As good and fine as those options are though, it's 2025, damn it, and I wanted to see if we've been able to find a lube/protectant that excelled beyond those two, specifically in rust protection. Better lubricant properties were a plus as well, but not really a priority whatsoever. And then... I found this wonderful article by DIY_guy (rancidcrabtree1964 on YouTube).

This is by far one of the most in-depth and comprehensive studies on rust prevention and lubrication on weapons I've ever seen, rounding up and testing a total of 46 products against each other, with most of them focused on firearms, but some of them not.

The TL;DR of it all was that "FrogLube Extreme" blew damn near everyone away in both lubrication properties and rust prevention, with Hornady One Shot and WD-40 Specialist snapping at its heels. The real tie breaker for these three though was how biologically safe they were, and in that regard, FrogLube stomps the competition as well. There is one area though that FrogLube may or may not do very good on, and that is simply the cleaning aspect, but to be honest, that's the easiest part of any gun care and doesn't require any specialist products whatsoever. Windex, or even just plain hot water with dish soap can be used as a perfectly good solvent. After that, hit it with FrogLube and you're good to go for... Who knows how long, but according to this study, it should last QUITE a while against even extreme conditions.
