Return of the Obra Dinn is a mystery game by Lucas Pope
Story:
The Obra Dinn, lost at sea in 1803, has now returned
You play as Chief Inspector for the Honorable East India Company and are tasked with assessing the insurance claims of the vessel. Shortly after boarding, you climb back down to the ferry boat and open a box to discover a book with over a hundred blank pages. The few filled in pages contain a map of the ship's planned journey, deck plans, crew/passenger manifest, some sketches and even a glossary. In the preface, Henry Evans requests that you use this book to catalog the adventure & tragedy which took place. The box also includes a magic pocket watch which allows the possessor to witness the still final moment of a nearby corpse
You could either do your job or do your job and solve some fates
Game Mechanics:
- Only upon successfully identifying three separate individuals as well as deducing their fates will the information be revealed to the player as being true and finally typed into the book. This allows the player to brute force guess an identity/fate if they are positive of two others
- Most locations on the ship are inaccessible from the start. One explores the ship by viewing fates which grant access to gated areas
