Hey developers, what happened to player-run servers?

And while I'm yelling into the void, this goes for indie developers too. Cut the shit.

You can't censor people on player-run servers. Plus, you need to curate their experience with SBMM and such!

Control. It's the same reason for including DRM and pushing streaming/cloud games (https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Digital_rights_management_(DRM)#Online_activation). And why they no longer include LAN mode or Self-hosting or Dedicated servers Peer-to-Peer or Direct IP.

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:LAN_play (I have to write on the same line to make a link viewable? Nope.. It had turned into a URL link automatically. Testing again after removing the URL code. Note to self, don't include two AltGr+8 as it removes anything in between them. Third time's the charm?

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Category:Self-hosting (Sadly, this isn't a chronological list, but I saw only older games on it)

I mostly agree with everyone's sentiments here, it's just another symptom of the Marxist oppression creeping into mainstream media, but I will say that servers do need some form of moderation to ensure nothing sketchy or outright alarming happens, stuff like hacking, malware distribution, harassment, grooming, or planning of premeditated violence. We need a middle ground, a way for players to be able to stop problematic behavior without proverbial shock collars on their necks.
