It's kinda hard for me to pin down the exact theme of this film because it deals with a lot. I guess though that the common thread in all of it is that you need to recognize the valuable people and the valuable things you have right in front of you instead of what you wish you had. And you need to be careful, because one day, you may find that you may no longer have what you had before. And if your viewpoint is particularly bad, it may be that even when you do lose something valuable that was right in front of you, you're not overly bothered about its absence because you're so narrow-minded and didn't see what made it so valuable in the first place.
And that transitions nicely into what I kinda feel is the main character of the film. Yondu. I actually really like in movie sequels when a side character you may not have thought too much about gets a much fuller focus in the sequel. It feels new and refreshing. Now, of course, don't get me wrong. The main gang of GotG is all here and just as guardiany as ever, and that's great, and they're all competently written, but ultimately, when I think of GotG2, I don't think of the main gang at all, or at least, not at first. The first person that springs to mind immediately is the big blue guy.
Unfortunately there are some problems though that arise towards the end of the movie.
Putting those aside though, the technicals of the movie are excellent. Sound and animation are all great. I particularly like the soundtrack to this film. Not every song is something I like, but there's definitely more hits than misses. Also reminded me of how amazing Fleetwood Mac can be. So, should you watch this movie? I'd say... Go call your parents. Message your friends. Reach out to those right in front of you before you lose them for good. That's what you should do.

Ego is supposed to be a small-g god. If anything else, he has pretty much complete control of the planet he lives on. And yet, when it comes time to dispatch Peter's friends, it turns into complete bush league amateur hour with dirt tentacles. I mean, fucking wat? Even Taserface could have done a better job than this. I totally get that Ego doesn't want to damage Peter too much so he'd want to pull his punches there, but Peter's friends? He doesn't give a shit about any of them whatsoever. And it's shown pretty effectively with a huge pile of bones that Ego has zero problems killing random people, so he's not exactly hung up on the morality of it either.
Thankfully, this can sort of be swept under the rug with the ol' rule of cool, but still, this is definitely some sloppy writing here.
