Games and 3D Audio

Does 3D audio really enhance the enjoyment of any 2D game? The tech seems to be forever in development, with something new appearing only to be tossed one generation later.

I have never heard anyone say: "you have to play this game, because the 3D audio is so cool". Have you?

My favorite 3D audio experience was with PS4's Fallout 4, combined with the Playstation Gold wireless headphones. They (probably) did a lot of proprietary sound stuff for it, so It feels like true surround sound. It was the first time in a videogame that I've ever heard somebody walking behind me, where I could pinpoint their exact location.

It's great, but I don't know if anyone else has done that with the headphones since. I don't recommend you go out and buy everything necessary to replicate my experience, but it's something I'll tell people about for a while.

I think rockstar might've done something similar with gta v, since they mentioned something about a setting with the playstation headphone when i launched if i remember correctly
