For those who don't know, the Ladybird browser is a FOSS web browser that is being COMPLETELY built from the ground up. It's not using WebKit or Gecko or any existing web engine. Andreas, the project lead, says it should be ready for an alpha release in 2026.

The developer has worked for Apple and developed Web Kit (https://awesomekling.github.io/I-quit-my-job-to-focus-on-SerenityOS-full-time/), so I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be very similar. Time will also tell what chrom-isms (API's) they adopt. It's good to be hopeful, but I prefer being realistic, and expect bad, so it's all the better when/if it turns out good.

Anyway, LibWeb will be the Fifth browser engine available then. Web Kit > Blink & Gecko > Goanna.
