This is long overdue for a couple reasons. I was kinda putting it off at first, and then when I was gonna write it last night, we had that drama with NiS then and this morning. But anyway, on to business. Here's the link to the videos:

I never really finished this game when I first played it. I might have to do that later. But yes, I still very much enjoy this game. I do have two small complaints though about the combat. For one, you move painfully slow. I really wish there was a sprint button or something. The second is that the enemies can get a bit bullet-spongey. The mini-boss enemies especially.

Putting all that aside, I still find F.E.A.R. enjoyable. The slowmo mechanic is useful and I never tire of causing sheer destruction in it with bullet casings slowly cascading down to the ground and the shockwave of grenades exploding and the miscellaneous office debris flying everywhere with every shot and detonation. Good sound design too. It really makes the whole thing very visceral and tactical and ties it all together. AI is just fantastic as well. They're really fun to take on for the most part.

Environments can get kinda samey, but the combat makes up for it a lot, and I kinda like the quiet subdued areas in a way. It's kinda peaceful. All in all, a great game I would definitely recommend for a playthrough even if it's just an hour playthrough or so.

FEAR is still, to say the least, a hella solid game. Doesn't work very well as a horror game but it's a brilliant shooter. Wish the sequels had left its mechanics the same and focused more on level design and variety but alas they didn't.

I'd say UT2004 has the most impressive engine of them, looking very good while still supporting a huge ass-ton of features. Also, UT2004 still to this day runs well on modern systems while still looking at least passable in the process. It's somehow built to be even more stable and futureproof than UT99 which was already a work of art.

A sequel to FEAR would be kinda tricky to make in all fairness though. Trying to keep the sequel fresh while also maintaining what makes FEAR what it is is not a job I'd envy, although it might be a fun challenge for me.

Games are a lot cheaper and healthier than drugs, my dude. It's a different high, but it won't destroy your body all by itself. You have to forget to exercise for that to happen.
