I always read horror stories from others online shopping at Newegg - legit every other slickdeals thread there are users trashing on them unasked
I've never had an issue with them until now
Newegg sold out of the 9070 I bought and received
Took a screenshot of them accepting backorders at $20 less on the 11th though, less than a week after my purchase
Their customer support chat was closed for the weekend - sent an email to official newegg.com emails (they don't have an official public customer support email on the site but they've got an official reddit account offering personal help while not disclosing it on all the top search result/threads asking for it) requesting price difference refund with the screenshot attached, no response ever
Reached out to the support chat yesterday - they explain that refund can't be done cuz they are sold out and they don't do it for backorders per policy (explains how backorders are just a waitlist and customers aren't charged until stock is back in)
I say that is an underhanded loophole to not honor price difference as the item was clearly advertised at a lower price & the attempt was being made to sell it should stock resupply (CEO has the site setup that way for a reason, ought to own it) - chat support still says can't do it but offers $30 (legit thought that they just mis-typed amount) gift card exception - accept it but make it clear that I think it really shouldn't be an exception
Email notice 10 hours later of $30 gift card
3 hours after that $50 refund to payment method from Newegg citing order# - ???
Now I have $60 that I shouldn't and I feel bad for it
Justified or not I can't even be content about the $20 difference now
Even if I never reached out to chat, I think my email prompted the $50 refund (they definitely mis-amounted that one on purpose, no way they mess that input up), so I'd still be left feeling the same
Thanks for reading my unasked nightmare experience with Newegg customer service
Now I ask you to contribute your own experiences to excuse this blog post posing as a forum thread
