Why? Who asked for this? Why do we need yet another launcher/storefront to find stuff on?
People are going to argue that competition with steam is good, but between Uplay, Battle.net, Bethesda.net, Discord store, GoG, Origin, HumbleBundle and i'm sure i'm missing at-least two more, do we really need yet another storefront?
Someone could make the smash bros meme with the amount of storefronts we now have.

I can see the "netflix effect" happening, where all these publishers make their own storefronts and push their own exclusive content to it. The result of this is that the consumer gets frustrated with the combined hoops he has to jump through in order to get all their games, and drops the whole thing altogether, seeking a path of greater convenience.

Content is a pie. When Epic takes a slice, that just means there's less left over for everybody else. I am wholly unwilling to download, install, update, and store credit card information on 11 different storefronts.

Plus, these amateur storefronts are less secure with their information than their more veteran rivals. I get emails that someone is trying to hack into my uplay account every week.

Before all these storefronts: "Steam needs to have some competition!"

After more storefronts: "Why are they opening so many storefronts!?"

Having said that, I like what Epic's doing over other storefronts because they actually are trying to compete with Steam instead of just doing a me-too store that nobody asked for i.e. Origin and Uplay.

YES.

Steam sucks unwashed, musky, STI ridden swamp ass and I'm so fed up with it. The laggy UI, the bugs, the ridiculously overbloated and dysfunctional storefront, the shit support, the non existent policing of community profiles, all of it. Even the sales suck now.

What we need/want is another USABLE storefront. If Epic can persuade as many devs and publishers as possible to sell on this platform and its got less issues than Steam I'm all for it and you should be too.

Out of the examples you mentioned. Uplay, Battlenet, Bethesda launcher, the discord store and Origin all only sell a select few games, or in Discords case a truckload of shitty indie games. On top of that they often have all of Steams failings, plus the added bonus of being a massive security risk. GoG offers a wider selection and guess what, its fucking great. Whenever I have the choice between GoG and Steam I go for GoG. I'd like to have that choice more often.

Completely serious here: Steam is one small part of the many reasons I don't play nearly as many video games as I used to. I just don't wanna deal with it, its horrible, the earlier some proper competition stomps it into the ground, the better. If Valve were capable of fixing it they would have by now; stop holding your breath, its not gonna happen, only gets worse from here.

Ah yes. Digital game storefronts. Those newfangled things that I haven't touched with a ten-foot pole, and will continue to not do so. (Excepting GoG ofc).

All hail DRM-Free GoG!

Steam isn't what it once was, but I'd rather it than anything else. Piracy is the next best option, and while Steam is around I'm done with that for myself.

I'd rather have different digital stores to buy games than different streaming services that all require separate subscriptions.
