So... Some of you might be wondering why it's taking me so long to upload a casual video. Actually, the video is already finished. It's been fully ready to go for a while now. I just need to upload it. But, uh... I can't fucking log in.

Google wants to send me an email to verify my identity because it's been a while and I'm logging in under a different IP address. That's fair. I go, then, to login to the email account I made with mail.com...

Except I can't because the account has been deleted. Apparently they will just up and delete accounts wholesale after a mere six (!) months of inactivity. Well, that's no problem. I don't care about the emails I received on that account. I just need the email address itself. Except it's not put back into the pool of available addresses for account registration... Even though it's been at least a year since it got deleted...

So yep. Our YouTube channel is now officially locked in permanent stasis. :) I have to make a whole new channel. Because of mail.com. I'm pissed.

Yeah, I had the exact same thing happen to me with Mail.com and GOG. Luckily I got around it, but I'm never using Mail.com again, and I'll be sure to read any future mail's inactivity period. While Mail.com is very limited with only 6 months, most only have up to 12 months. That's a bummer really, because mails are almost obsolete today. Yet so important. Remember to disable any MFA/2FA. Remember your password. Don't log out of any account you have with a mail.com address.

We had a channel? When was the last time it was even used? I can't remember any of this.

Ah yes the Linux video, I do remember that, but video says 2 years ago and its probably older than 2 years. No wonder I didn't remember any of that.

It's been a minute. Mostly due to my decision both to not make long-form information in video format anymore and also because I don't want to care about YouTube's regular bullshit they put out every month it seems. If I upload any videos on YouTube now, personally, then they'll purely be videos that I don't really care about that much.

You know, it's not even the amount of time they give before account deletion that I'm mad about because the account has indeed been sitting collecting dust for a long time. No, what I'm really mad about is that they offer NO fucking solution. No recourse whatsoever. Many free email services will also delete your account after inactivity, yes, but they ALSO provide at least one way to get the fucking account back.

Well that sucks, but you have all the videos backed up right? So on paper you could just make a sort of copy of the channel the re upload it.

I could, yes, but it's a lot of videos, and as far as I know, there's no quick way for any site to just mirror a channel. Not without the login details for the account anyway.
