A lot of people say Crysis 2 is inferior to the first one, and to that I agree. To a point. Crysis 2 is not as customizable at all, has more constrained levels, has a more unstable framerate, and the aliens were a let down. In terms of the core gameplay though, I think Crysis 2 actually redeems itself a lot. There's also the naturally superb graphics and sound. At first I preferred the first one's gameplay, but now, having played the second one again for a while, I see one isn't better over the other. They're just different.
In the first one, you're leaner and faster. Speed mode was incredibly powerful and could be abused to hell and back, allowing you to get out of all manner of sticky situations and into incredibly advantageous spots. However, even in armor mode, you'll still go down kinda fast with any sort of sustained fire. Due almost purely to this, there's a big emphasis on positioning, dodging, and thinking fast.
In the second one though, things have changed. Speed mode has been heavily neutered, making you run at a normal pace. Armor mode though got juiced up a ton, now pretty much turning you into a walking tank. And even without armor mode, you're still pretty beefy, able to shrug off a lot of shots before you hit the red.
So as you can see, the first one emphasizes offensive play and to think and move fast. The second one emphasizes defensive play and efficiency. The first is a sprint to the finish line. The second is a slow but steady march of death and destruction. By the way, this is not accounting for cloak mode which can be abused equally as much in both games. In fact, I think it's so broken, I don't really use it that much, if at all, even if it is admittedly fun to use sometimes anyway.
