I wonder what this will mean with d2 being on the blizzard store. Will it stay? will it appear on steam too? maybe epic?
Regardless, I hope they learn from their mistakes when they make d3

The bigger question is why did they join them in the first place?

I guess this means Destiny will no longer be on Battle.net?
Money.

Activision saw the success of Halo and said;
Hey Bungie, you probably have some nice ideas for a new franchise, right?
We'll be willing to bankroll it and we'll both profit!

Reportedly, Bungie needed someone with deep pockets to fully realize Destiny (I really don't know why.) They should have just bit the bullet though and signed on with Devolver. I think they're the only publisher I actually trust these days. Zenimax MAY have worked too. At least way back when. Now, I wouldn't trust them to pick their nose correctly.

Server costs maybe? I can't imagine maintaining server's being cheap

Looking at what Devolver Digital published, I doubt that they would have had the ability to bankroll a project like Destiny.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 was made with a budget of ~$2 million.
And Destiny's budget was said to have been $500 million, I doubt that Devolver Digital has that kind of cash.

So even with you liking Devolver, I doubt that a working relationship between Bungie and them would have worked out.
