The tantrum will continue until they get what they want.
But realistically, either spez will cave to media pressure, or they'll start flooding the sub with CP or calls for violence and get it taken down that way.
Their reasoning is "lockdowns/mandates/masks/passes/the vaccine are necessary to protect human life! If you're against any of these things you're KILLING PEOPLE, therefore you're evil and you and your dangerous ideas must be stopped!"
People have always, and will always, spread disease. People have always, and will always, do things that indirectly lead to the death of other people. We should try to limit preventable deaths within reason, but there will always be a tradeoff between freedom and safety. Both concerns are legitimate, and even if you deny it, everyone wants to be free and everyone wants to be safe.
That you would rather have more freedom than security cannot be simplified down to "if you disagree, you're in favor of killing people". That you would rather have more security than freedom does not necessarily lead to better, longer, healthier lives, and fewer deaths. Even if it does, a long, healthy life spent locked inside a cell is not a life worth living.
You think you are in the right because you're "saving lives"? Most people who commit atrocities also think that what they are doing is for the greater good, and that they are simply removing evil from the world. You are in the company of dictators, tyrants, and murderers.
If you say that "this is no time for freedom, because people's lives are at stake!", consider the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. They're technically a democracy. It's just that their democratic process, as well as many other freedoms, were "temporarily suspended" because they are at war. It's an emergency, get it? It's only temporary, see?
All these rights and freedoms, including the freedom to disagree with "the establishment", that you take for granted, and are happily willing to give up, are necessary to keep us from becoming like the DPRK. Or Russia. Or China. If it's a choice between ruining the country forever, or saving even a hundred thousand more lives, choosing to ruin the country is not worth it.
And I'm no nationalist. I have never pledged allegiance to the flag. I'm not loyal to Trump or Biden. As a Jehovah's Witness, I am politically neutral, but I do benefit greatly from freedom of speech. We do not vote to preserve our freedoms, but we do defend the use of them in courts of law. The main thing we're known for is preaching to strangers. I enjoy the freedoms that allow us to do this, and would hate to lose them. We are kept updated on how Russia classified our religion as "extremist" and how they are harassing, beating, jailing, and fining our brothers and sisters. We know what it looks like when freedoms are taken away, and we know what justifications they use to do it, because it's happening to us.
And now you're advocating that it should happen to others.
“The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have a chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior 'righteous indignation' — this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats.” Aldous Huxley
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.” C.S. Lewis
"Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin
I would love to tell this to the people who are arguing for censorship, but they would censor me.
Remember when people thought that the internet would expose people to diverse viewpoints, and the world would be more enlightened as a result?
