Black Desert Online is pretty fun

I've been playing an MMO, Black Desert Online. It's pretty cool.

Combat is "active", as opposed to using tab-targeting or just clicking. All of your skills are in the form of combos mapped around both mouse buttons, Q, F, C, Space, and WASD. For example, W + left click and S + left click do different moves. You can also dodge. Similar to Tera.

There's also a lot of AFK mechanics, where you can send workers off to gather stuff for you over time, and you can remotely send them items to keep them going whenever they stop. I have the client up right now, minimized to the task bar, and my character is fishing. When I get home from work, I'll sell the fish and refresh my workers.

It seems pretty quick to reach max level, and then after that (I hear that) there's PVP stuff you can do, where guilds can fight over locations on the map, and if they win they get taxes whenever merchandise passes through.

I haven't seen a lot of the stuff yet, like world bosses, pvp, trading, crafting, house-building, etc.

It's pretty overwhelming at first, but if you just organize the UI and turn off all the chatty alerts, you can get comfy.

Any of youse play this? What's yer favorite MMO?

Every time I look at reviews for it, people keep talking about how grindy it is, and that's really put me off from playing it in favor of Guild Wars 2.

I swear, MMOs are the only games being made nowadays with deep enough RPG mechanics to engage me. On the other hand, the all are massive time sinks and costly to maintain (monthly subs, microtransactuons) that it instantly turns me off to them. I'm always open to a new game if it's going to validate itself, but I have not seen a MMO do that since Guild Wars. maybe gw2, but I never got to try it.

I think it's the best MMO out there in my arrogant opinion.

HOWEVER, it does have problems unfortunately. For one, ANet has abandoned the PvP side of it, letting cheaters and match manipulation run absolutely fucking rampant while PvE is nice and moderated because PvP doesn't bring in the big bucks apparently. That's definitely the biggest problem right there. The other problem is some grind has gently creeped into the latter parts of the game such as Masteries. Now, it's DEFINITELY not as bad as other MMOs out there, but in my opinion, good enough isn't good enough if they have the time and tools and resources to make it better.
