Anyone here who upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on their same PC?

Yes, believe or not, I'm back. And this place certainly changed a bit. But nothing that will keep me active here for too long since Discord has captured my attention away from forums.

So anyways. This question. Anyone here upgraded their Windows 7 PC to Windows 10? I have some questions:

Did you do a clean upgrade installation of Windows 10? Because I am lead to think that the best way to upgrade to 10 is to do so by deleting all your prior data and starting with clean fresh Windows 10.

And if you did not, did you guys had any issues with compatibility with any of your installed video games? Because I have a ton of games here, some of which are modded in a way that trying to re-mod it again is a hassle.

I did a clean install of Win 10 instead of an upgrade, never had problems with any of my old games except for a few that have always been poorly optimized since even before Win 10 existed. However if your games are heavily modded there is a chance there might be compatibility problems that will require reinstalling said mod or updating it if a more current version even exists.

I did... sorta; I had Windows 8 on my notebook, then the people I sent it to for repairs when my hard drive died on me installed 10.

Can't say I noticed any gaming-related problems.

Upgrading to any Windows OS instead of doing a clean install is generally a bad idea. And it's even worse with shit-ass 10. With that said, I wouldn't know the exact issues here. Are the file paths for the game files the same? Also, check the games at PCGamingWiki. See if there's any issues with 10 for them. Besides that, the only other thing I can recommend would be to run sfc /scannow.

You can still do the free upgrade to Win 10, but what you need to do is Upgrade your Win 7 to 10 FIRST and generate the digital license, then you can go ahead and do a clean install of Windows 10 after you've done that.

Again does doing a Clean install mean deleting all my data?

Like my Skyrim install on Steam or my Steam data?

Yes. Everything will be reformatted, and thus, deleted. Make sure to backup everything on the drive(s) to be formatted.

I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to. You can just upgrade if you want and then do a clean install later if you find you have issues. And you only really need to reformat the partition that you install Windows on, if you didn't install Steam to C drive you should be fine, I think.
